Although the IRS has a rather…diabolical reputation, in my esperience, that reputation is overblown. A few years ago, my wife and I owed a substantial sum. The IRS people were very understanding and worked out a payment plan. They even let us miss the occasional payment when we simply didn’t have the money. Communication is the key in dealing with them.
