Katy: I want to go to the pool. Adam: Good luck with that. It's February. Katy: Then, can we go to a hotel with a pool? Adam: Mm. Not today. Katy: The indoor water park? Adam: I heard it's closed for repairs. Katy: Well, phooey. Adam: Okay, listen. I'll tell you about this club, but it's very exclusive. The lady's Shirley Temple? Katy: Just throw that on my tab, won't you Newman?

For all the flack he takes for his silliness, he’s really very sweet.

I think it’s great what Adam does but Katie needs to get herself in reality.

I don’t get it. Why would it be questionable?

Aw, that was really sweet! There is a sane part of Adam after all.

We know Katy is wearing a hat, and we know her dream is lying on a raft in her swimsuit. Only someone looking for bad things would imagine anything but a sweet scene here.

Sorry, but I think that’s fairly silly. She is six years old. At that age she shouldn’t have any kind of body shame of shyness in front of her family at all. Unless it was taught to her, and that’s not actually a good thing. If she wants to wear a swimsuit, fine! But if she wants to be naked, fine too! And no one should make her believe otherwise. A natural need for privacy doesn’t usually come until later (onset of puberty, maybe a bit earlier). If that happens it should be her decision to want more privacy. If it doesn’t come from her own wishes, then it was taught to her with the use of shame and embarrassment. That’s not really something anyone should feel about their own body.

I knew someone would bring up the swimsuit issue. It does surprise me it came from Ms. Newman. We were all raised differently. Personally I gave my daughters baths until they were around 3 or 4, and supervised their bath time for a year or two after that. No big deal. I would expect Ms 2009, (not mentioning her name) to tell me I am going to hell. Oh well.
