Here in the United States the GOP has had the House for quite some time. Or maybe you’re referring to the alternate reality where the GOTP is concerned about the Constitution.
And here is the lie that Harlekinns and every other Republican passes to the masses: Rich people spend money on us. Tell us Harley if rich guy spends money in the French Riviera how does the fair tax recover that money spent elsewhere? It doesn’t. What about collectibles, wholesale items, and business expenses? According to you and your law it will not tax these items. The only thing it will tax is me buying a loaf of bread for my family and the retail items I purchase. So how in the world is the fair tax fair to everybody other than the fact that it starts with the word fair?

The power structure much prefers him when he was justifying slavery. They just don’t make that clear to their followers. Well, they don’t even mention it, really. Some of those followers might start to wonder about their real role in the star spangled future.

So what is the rational reason for not repatriating the funds as things stand?
Oh, gosh, I see – if they bring their money home, they’ll have to pay tax on it, just like the unwashed, starving masses!
It’s not working people and the middle classes who are concealing income and sending family wage jobs overseas, where they can fill them at slave wages, pocketing the difference. We never see those funds.
They’re doing a nice job of propping up the economies of those third world countries, though. Not to mention China. How generous of them, to sacrifice our workforce and economy to help out the poor struggling Chinese. They are so much more worthy than we are.

There’s a catch, Harley – in order for that money to drive a healthy US economy – it has to be spent in the US, not offshore.
Since the US is no longer producing anything much beyond paper of one sort and another, basically those wealthy people are just swapping services, and their expenditures rarely ‘trickle down’ to support the economy. Their willingness to hire illegals for cash doesn’t meet that criteria, nor does their eagerness to destroy small businesses by strong arming communities into embracing BigBox and other BigBidniz intrusions. I’m aware of a few communities which have managed to block those installations, for a time at least, but most of the time, money talks.
Unfortunately, none of it is returned to the communities.
So don’t be surprised if the quote doesn’t prove a winner for your point.
Harleyquinn: Your “fair” tax comes out of the rich’s booze budget and out of the poor"s milk budget; disproportionately slightly improving the health of the rich and doing major damage to that of the poor. I don’t think you are really all that rich, but just repeat what the military/industrial junta tells you to say.
Talk about living in a fantasy land!! You can not possibly even begin to believe that this “Fair Tax Plan” ever stands a chance of even passing the most ardent tea party member of the House of Representatives! Forget it, it is NOT going ot happen!! The Real Estate interests in this country (with their $millions and $millions spent influencing Congress) alone, would stop it long before they would allow the interest deduction for real property to even be remotely endangered by this, And that is not even including the banks and mortgage houses.
It is NOT going to happen in Congress, let alone passing a repeal of the 16 th amendment. You should understand that the most unpopular amendment to the Constitution in history was that of Prohibition. Prohibition began on January 17, 1920, when the Eighteenth Amendment went into effect. In fact the 16 th amendment was passed to enable this 18 th amendment, as up until the 16 th amendment the federal government was funded chiefly by the excess taxes on such goods as alcoholic materials! This amendment became so unpopular that it was the ONLY amendment to the US Constitution ever to be repealed by a later amendment!! The amendment process was made to be this difficult by the original framers of the US Constitution deliberately as they wanted a stable democracy for their own purposes (good or bad).
Even with the unpopularity of the current federal tax system, if you and these others on this site actually think that you can even begin to have such influence, then compared to you people, the Hobbits in J.R. Tolkien’s Hobbit World not only exist in reality, but they are far more in touch with the average American at the same time!!!

Tax policies are a bi-partisan issue, along with all the other abuses. Until you can grasp that, you are part of the problem.
