HIs biggest problem has been being too flexible and trying to accommodate the morons on the right. LIke, ain’t it a shame we haven’t bombed Syria and Iran, and NOT gotten any of our troops killed? Bush and the chickenhawks are really disappointed by that!
Just a note on experiences, it IS amazing how much easier it is to convict crooks by letting them shoot their mouths off while you play “dumb” in handling them. Now, just HOW MUCH has Cruz been blabbing away? Boehner? The other TEA piddles in Congress?
There is plenty of blame to go around, and inflexibility has been the hallmark of both houses of Congress and the Obama administration for years. It is of no value to assign blame to only “the other side”, when “your side” is just as culpable. That’s one of the best ways to ensure your opinions are unworthy of consideration.
I would be interested to discuss the writings of our founders with you DbtL. Particularly the writings of Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison. Not so much Hamilton, though his vision of what our nation should become is the one most realized. The writings of Lincoln and T. Roosevelt would be useful from my own perspective, though they were not ‘founders’.One other thought…When you stereotype “today’s Democrats” as you have, you are throwing fuel on the flames of divisiveness weakening our nation as warned by George Washington. When you use insults instead of logic and links to facts, you prove Eisenhower’s warning that it would take an informed and educated electorate to stand up to the military industrial complex. His draft of that speech included the words, Congressional. Insults do not inform. Stereotyping does not educate. And I assure you, the principles upon which the Founders stood would NEVER have permitted our nation to be shut down the way it has. The Founders would have fought to know every aspect of the ACA before it was passed and they would have searched for best methods/practices and compromised to create a product that promoted the health and well being of the citizens for which they sacrificed so much.Read what happened to the homes and families of those who signed the Declaration of Independence as you display anger from the safety of a home which the blood of patriots has made safe for you, and for whom the tax dollars of those who came before you paid to universities and colleges to give you the medicines and technologies that make you healthy enough to think about what angers you, and enables you access to tools that allow you to insult those who offend you.Are you despised by the left by choice? Curiously,C.
Mechanic, great comment. My disagreement would be nuanced and would include thoughts on the “Dixiecrats” and my thoughts on how many, if not all, of the tactics being used by the GOP were first used by Dems in the 70s and 80s, just not as efficiently. I would also point out that our global economy makes national loyalty less cost effective than it used to be. I would like to add more, but my wife is calling and I might not be able to return to these pages until tomorrow. Overall, I agree and appreciate the thought and tone you bring to the debate.Sorry I have to go. Great comment.Sincerely,C.
Republican idea of compromise summarized perfectly in one tweet by Judd Legum:Can I burn your house down? – No.Just the 2nd floor? – No.Garage? – No.Let’s talk about what I can burn down. – No.YOU AREN’T COMPROMISING!
MStevenson58, you really are honestly ignorant about all the compromising that was done during the 14 months of the ACA’s creation, aren’t you? And by “compromising”, I obviously mean the Democrats giving up major parts of the bill like Single Payer, and the Republicans giving up absolutely nothing.I’m not even sure you understand that no matter how many times you type “unconstitutional”, the Supreme Court’s opinion trumps yours.
“He hasn’t negotiated a damn thing! Give me an example of ONE thing.”He gave up one of the main features of the original bill: Single payer. In return for that, the Republican gave him nothing but more demands, many of which were met.So why don’t you tell us why, given that the original bill gave up a lot to the Republicans over the 14 months it was crafted, and given that it was passed by Congress, signed into law by the President, ruled constitutional by the Supreme Court, and given that Obama trounced Romney to be re-elected, the Republicans now, 4 years later, have ANY right to demand further negotiations???
Oh, and while you’re at it, Corayan, how about answering these simple questions:
1. Why do you want insurance companies to be able to deny coverage for pre-existing conditions?
2. Why is it bad to require insurance companies to spend at least 80% of insurance premiums on actual health care, as opposed to executive salaries and bonuses?
3. Why is it bad for dependents to be able to stay on their parents’ policy until age 26, instead of making them get more expensive care at a younger age?
4. Why do you like lifetime insurance caps?
5. Why is it better to have millions of people uninsured who then use emergency rooms for routine care, costing far more?
Thanks in advance for explaining these things, so we can understand why you hate Obamacare so much.
“Because they won the House…”But Church, this is not a bill, this is an established law. Any negotiating gets done before the bill gets passed. If they don’t like it, then they should get it repealed or superceded…which they couldn’t do because they only won the House." What makes you so sure they would have voted for single-payer?“Guess we’ll never know, since that was given up to the Republicans for…nothing.”On the other hand, Obamacare passed without a single Republican vote, so they didn’t need anything from Republican, did they?“No, that was one of the most frustrating lessons from Obama’s first term…especially since he didn’t seem to learn from it.”if you had a car and no insurance…."Weak analogy, since unlike your wife the car didn’t have to be repaired…it could have been replaced. But actually I have experienced something similar. We added a second kitchen to our house for a guest suite, and I bought a second-hand refrigerator and range for it from Craigslist. We then bought a home warranty policy, and used it to repair faults in both appliances (new ice maker, and new microwave control panel). Nothing underhanded on my part; I candidly told them the situation. This concept probably wouldn’t be an issue if all medical insurance companies acted like those your wife encountered…so I guess they don’t.Hey, how about answering the other questions?

Americans pay 80% more for health care as a percentage of GDP than the rest of the G8 who cover 100% of their populations. That extra 80 percent goes to the 1 percenters in the USA. There is no way that their stooges in the Republican Party will let the ACA do its thing with that much money at stake (enough to cover the budget deficit).

The stiff part called a “spine”. If Boehner had something similar, we wouldn’t be in this mess.
