I have a grandson that his mom has to make sure he uses soap and shampoo, his idea of a shower is just to get wet. He just doesn’t understand that wet does not mean clean.

I made my kids take a shower every night, now they can’t go to bed without it… now my grandkids have to shower every night!

“Did you brush your teeth?”“Yes.” (I know she didn’t.)“Well, brush them again!”If that doesn’t work, I go check for a wet toothbrush, toothpaste smeared on the counter – anything.“I didn’t see any evidence. Do you want me to keep you company?”‘No." (She does it, and I find a wet toothbrush, toothpaste in the basin and on the counter, and she proudly shows ofl her “clean” teeth). She’s seven. No telling what the older ones are doing. (I’m talking about the grandkids.)

YES! Thank you! I can’t stand that thought — like an old teabag. Many years ago in a little corner that was just getting started after the war we had wells in our neighborhood. From time to time they’d get low. On one such occasion the rather strange family down the block decreed that they would share bathwater (sequentially, thank heaven!), father, mother and two girls about my age. Even as a kid I was completely grossed out. To this day, if I’m IN water I’m swimming. YUCK!

This is the age where Ellie should start letting Michael suffer consequences — take too long at bath, tired and miserable next day, maybe miss breakfast. And no, a brief stint of such things will not result in Michael failing grade school, be unable to get into college and result in him becoming a career criminal. Get over it!

It may be the towel is to large to have it be lower. I like really like large bath towels myself. As for baths versus showers, I take showers a lot but once in a while it feels really great to just soak in a hot tub of water, especially in the winter.

Soaking in the tub feels so good. I let the water out then a quick shower.

When my sister was younger, my mom had to sit in the bathroom while she took a shower to make sure she actually used shampoo and conditioner

When my son was little he was “allowed” to go to bed early, if he had behaved well. When he was old enough to grasp my plot, he had already developed the habit to go to bed happily when tired and even now at 18 he sometimes surprises us by going to bed earlier than his mother and me. Reverse psychology (sometimes) work.
