Cruz is demolishing himself before our very eyes. What a loser. Hope he doesn’t manage to take down the country with him. I’m doing badly enough under GOP austerity, I can ill afford an economic collapse.
Depends on who you identify as freeloaders. I say GE, big oil, corporate farmers and some other large corporations with huge tax breaks, and corporations that don’t pay any tax at all are the freeloaders. Why should they have all the benefits of what the middle class puts in the US coffers, but not contribute anything? And the barons of Wall St. with tiny percentages.
Cruz managed, in his one-hour pseudo-filibuster (some are already calling it a “fauxlibuster”) to prove his main point, which is that Congress is not listening to the American people — using himself as the primary example.According to recent polls, 59% of Americans are AGAINST defunding the ACA if it means a government shutdown (and only 19% say yes), not to mention these other points where Cruz is firmly against the majority of the American people:He is against raising taxes on the wealthyHe is against gun controlHe wants sharp cuts to Social Security and MedicareHe should listen to his own argument…
The real freeloaders are the wealthy, who pay far under their share of taxes based on a promise they never intended to keep. Wake up, there’s a class war going on and the rich are winning. They’ve enjoyed a huge increase in income while the rest of us have been stagnant or lost ground over the last 40 years. It is not unreasonable for people to band together to take care of each other. It is unreasonable for a small group to stand in the way of that decision. The ACA is a legal law, and has been approved by the Supreme Court. Repeal by blackmail is the unconstitutional thing. Why do you protect the rich at the expense of everyone else or do you just not realize that we’re being scammed and ripped off?
It is apparently the job of right wing conservatives to stand in the way of human progress. The record for the longest actual filibuster was by a loud mouthed, racist bigot trying to block the civil rights act from being implemented. In every age there always has to be an inordinately confident, shallow excuse for a human being standing in the road blocking progress. This age age has more than its fair share.
The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other , of course, involves orcs.
I personally don’t get the huge fear that people have that there will be “freeloaders”. When I do work it is so I can make money, or help others or help myself. The fear that somebody else may benefit from it without a direct benefit to myself is not particularly hard on the mind.
There always will be freeloaders as “freeloader” is an open word. However the vast majority of people are simply trying to get ahead
