My Dad rarely raised his voice. He ruled by “The Look and The Point” – very effective in training kids and and animals. Sometime in my mid-thirties I was doing exactly that to one of my own miscreants, when it occurred to me: " Oh, my god, I’ve become my father “. I called him up and told him. His response…” What took you so long ? "And BTW neither my Mom or Dad were afraid to employ a little corporal punishment, when absolutely necessary. Nor was I, for that matter.

Looks like she suffers from Paddle Deficit Disorder!

Spare the rod…horse-hocky.After I did something wrong dad would say to me “You want your ass kicked”..(me), being a petulant kid, would respond and say “Sure It’s been awhile”I guess that’s why it’s called ‘rearing’ a child..

“By golly, you’re right kid. I thought you would settle for something I could afford but since I see you won’t, I’ll take this back for a full refund and wait until such time as I feel I can afford your $800 gift.”-(To be honest, it is counterproductive to give an unwanted gift. Better to give nothing.)
