    Speaking of nitwits, what’s with all the idiots like Ashburn who are making comments unrelated to the cartoon – the comments in Andy Capp are worst of all…

    Can’t recall an arc this long that didn’t include Frazz.

    @bigpuma

    I have the "Frazz’ books, and in one of them there’s an arc about how during the summer, while jogging through his neighborhood, Frazz comes upon Mrs. Olsen working in her garden. It’s the first time he has ever seen her outside of the school environment. The conversational dance they do as he discovers how much she loves flowers and the care of them, while she attempts to maintain some semblance of her gruff-teacher persona, is quite touching. As I recall, he ends up helping her out for a while because it turns out she’s actually interesting to hang out with. But maybe you know all this already…I usually let a year or so go by between bedtime “Frazz” marathons, wherein I reread the whole series from the beginning. (Same with Calvin and Hobbes.) It’s been a while now since I’ve read the early ones, so my memory may be a bit skewed.

    Nitwits? Idiots? Please…. This is a nice group of people enjoying each other’s company, in a variety of ways. No place here for gratuitous insults. Leave the invective to people who have just been nearly run down by cars, which I don’t think Ashburn has done to you!

    At dampwaffle’s suggestion I just took a look at today’s comments on “Andy Capp.” Good fun, I thought.

    Keep in mind that Jef Mallett’s characters are multi-dimensional and Mrs Olsen isn’t all bad. There have been times when Frazz protected Mrs Olsen from the worst of offensive insults.

    Agreed little girl! At least Mrs. Olsen can see her little bit.

    Glad to see this story line. Sure Mrs. Olsen is often the butt of jokes, but it’s clear she’s one of these old line teachers who’s also dedicated and would do anything — even risk her life — for them. (also liked story line a few summers ago in which Mrs. Olsen hired Caulfield, so we got to see her sense of play outside the classroom).

    It’s just occurred to me that, as far as I can remember, none of the characters ever makes up nasty nicknames for the others, or even omits the honorific “Mr.,” “Mrs.,” and “Miss.”

    I’m pretty sure her shock is at the combination of Mrs. Olsen’s heroics and vocabulary. In a good way.
