I now understand why so many people put Ms. Ima down. she is really in serious denial… but then again, so are most Republican supporters.

Climate Change – I don’t want the government wasting tax dollars trying to fix it. It will only mean a lower standard of living for everyone. I would rather they make plans to adapt when it happens.

Joblessness – They’re trying to fix it. Repeal Obamacare and maybe many of those jobless will be worth the cost of their salary and benefits. But Obama is sticking it to the workers and claiming that he is helping them.

Income Inequality – I want the government to do LESS on this issue. The liberals always point to the CEOs of companys and say Oh look how unfair it is that he makes so much more then the Janitor in his company. But you never hear them complaining that Actors/Actresses, Sports Stars, and Musicians are overpaid. Capitalism works. It’s not a rigged game but it exacts a discipline. It forces you to identify what you are good at and then work hard to continue to improve on those skills. The CEO of my company makes a lot more then me but he’s wicked smart and works hard. He and his officers make good decisions for our company which keeps the company operating and profitable. He’s well worth his salary. All of these government initiatives that transfer wealth from one group to another make the recipients grateful for government and not for the hard work of those that fill the coffers from which they take.

Gun Violence – I blame the press more then anyone else. If they weren’t reporting body count like a box score you wouldn’t see all these people trying to top the last guy.

Student Loan Debt – Nobody made these people take out student loans. First it was homeowner debt and the irresponsible complaining that they didn’t understand the mortgage they were getting into. Now it’s the students that are complaining that they didn’t understand that they would have to pay back their student loans. This issue will sort itself out given time. Those that frittered away their college years getting a useless degree on student loans will serve as a morality play for others.

The Republicans are doing the right thing and allowing these issues to sort themselves out. The alternative is the Democratic plan which is: “Let’s loot the productive and give it to the stupid and the lazy so they will vote for us.”

Genome and Jase….sure, people use CO2 to make their aquarium plants nice and green. So of course ONE scientist, and Ronnie RayGun himself used that as the basis for CO2 “good”.

Would be curious to see where the good professor got his grant money….

I really HATE the fact that GoComics has the word‘delete’ at the bottom of my comment, but clicking on it does NOTHING! It wouldn’t hurt to have an ‘Edit’ choice — that worked!

You are befuddled in what you

think Liberals are. I’m a Liberal and I take exception to your erroneous misuse of the word. You make it sound like a BAD thing. My dictionary defines ‘Liberal’ as

    liberal (lîb´er-el, lîb´rel) adjectiveAbbr. lib.

    a. Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry. b. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded. c. Of, relating to, or characteristic of liberalism.

Mephistopholes: Ironic that you should mention climate first. Back before 1982 when Reagan gutted the Bureau of Appropriate Technology and the corporate media blacked out all mention, I had instituted a six semester-hour introductory course to educate the average person so they could judge the validity of various products and proposals to enable people to deal with the problem themselves. It was popular with the public, but not with the colleges. I have not been permitted to teach the course since. The excuses have been interesting: We only have six-week non-credit courses (very recent)The government won’t let us (so much for academic freedom)No one is interested in that (with the censorship, I wonder why)That is not an academic subject (it is in most of the world)We can’t change policy (no explanation of why it is policy or why other policies do change)It just is (with inflections of “we are in power, so lump it”)Of course the relation of endowment with oligopoly is never mentioned. Why would they permit knowledge of ways individuals and neighborhoods can do things for themselves rather than depend on corporations to provide them on their prices and terms? AT provides for a higher standard of living, not lower, and without wrecking the planet for private profit.

@Neocon – I am not in favor of the Federal government, or states for that matter, regulating abortion beyond the need to make sure ALL medical procedures are safe and effective.

When I talk about being in favor of a smaller, less intrusive government, I mean it. The Federal government has become the tool of both parties to enforce their beliefs on the whole country.

Democrats believe in robbing the wealthy and handing it out to the less fortunate as vote buying largess. They do it at the state level as well but they love to reach out from Washington, into the pockets of people that don’t share their beliefs, and take.

Republicans talk a good game of smaller government but they too like to reach out from Washington and try to control the behavior of people far away. They don’t like Homosexuals marrying so they try to stop it at Washington. They don’t like women getting abortions so they try to control them from Washington too. They don’t like people smoking dope so they try to control that from Washington as well.

We need to deny both parties the ability to unnecessarily control the lives of honest taxpayers and retake our liberties.

@Markjoseph – So I guess what you are saying is that I am a “nutjob” because I don’t agree with you on the issues of where the government should intercede. Remember, this conversation started with Mr. Luckovich taking the Republicans to task for not reacting to the crisis du jour and I agreed with the Republican party that many of those crises are artificial.

Save your name calling for someone who cares. But recognize that there are many of us who prepared for the current crises and are doing just fine. We don’t want to see a lot of new laws, regulations, or taxes just so the government can care for those who foolishly didn’t prepare.

I think it’s both sad and funny that when liberals turn to name calling when they run out of arguments for why the productive should be enslaved to the stupid and the lazy.

I don’t know about you but I have 3 children that are all getting straight As and two of them are going to college for in-demand degrees. I don’t want to see taxes heaped on them to pay for the most current crop of non-productive workers AND all the excess spending of the current administration.

And I think, if you read many of my posts, that you would find that I am far less right wing then you think. I am for a smaller Federal government with less taxes and regulations going to Washington but on Social issues I’m as Laissez faire as they come.

Since you feel that your position does not put you in the “nutjob” category I challenge you to tell me what you would tell Republicans “That represent a group in America with whom you don’t relate” why you are so much smarter then them.

I still applaud the Republicans for holding back the constant demand for money and power promolgated by an out of control Federal Government.

@Neocon – Why does that work have to be done at the Federal Government? Why does all good have to come out of Washington. Last time I checked there were state governments in every state that could effect many of the laws and regulations we see coming from Washington. And those state governments would be a darn sight more responsive to the people who have to live with the laws and regulations.

I’m not against a federal government but I think it assigns itself too much power and in areas where it doesn’t need to be.

Let each state tax and control it’s roads. Let each state tax and control for education. Let each state decide what gun laws it will have, or abortion laws, or drug laws.

Leave the Federal government to worry about Defense and interstate commerce.

Both Republicans and Democrats will argue with that because as I said earlier – They want that power. The Republicans want to stop Gay marriage and drug use and the Democrats want to tax the rich everywhere to help the poor.

@Neocon- I think the point that you are missing is that the Federal government seems far less responsive to local desires then State or local governments.

Many of the laws they pass out of Washington aren’t needed or desired at the local level. Think here marijuana laws in Washington and Colorado, gun laws in red states et al.

The Federal government is the environment who have a strong desire to control behavior across the country and I for one would like to see their habits curtailed. And it woud lower my taxes as well.
