When I was a kid, some of us would lay on the ground in a field, while another guy would shoot an arrow high in the air….straight up….If it came back towards us we’d roll out of the way…..We would also try to catch them in ball caps from a hundred feet away…Kinda stupid really…..

As a kid I tried shooting an arrow straight up to see how high it would go. It disappeared, and I couldn’t tell where it was coming down. Didn’t do it again.

I played with my dad’s bow and arrow, shooting it into a target on a hay bail, many times … and it went over the fence into the neighbor’s yard more than once. I only stopped when they caught me in their yard picking it up. They were really nice people and I could have killed one of them.

Dad used to shoot sparklers up in the air with his bow and arrow.

I had to think long and hard about the dumb things I did before age 15, and I can’t think of much. With 4 sisters and only another boy my age in the farm neighborhood, populated with more girls, there wasn’t much we could do without getting tattled on..Though we DID climb one of those light-beacon towers to see what we could see. A neighbor drove by, spotted us, mentioned it to our fathers and we STILL got a beatin’ laid on us.. Talk about cameras being everywhere today… neighbors in ’38 Plymouths were the Wi-Fi Spy of the day..

That looks like one very high throw for a kid. How much time elapsed between panels 2 and 4?

Many years ago, a child actually did get killed walking past my elementary school on a day when the kids were practicing archery. She was on the other side of the fence, but the arrow went over and found her. More recently, a police officer who was the single mother of three small children was killed in Denver’s City Park by a stray bullet fired by someone trying to break up a fight (or something like that). In both of those cases, forethought on the part of the adults could have prevented those tragedies; not the same as kids who literally have no idea what the dangers could be!

I never played solitaire catch, but I sure made a lot of daisy chains while “playing” outfield in gym class….
