So I welcomed you as a refugee fleeing from death and destruction in your own land. And gave you safe haven from the terrors I was told you experienced. I was happy to offer you a chance at life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As well as an education and the satisfaction of a useful and fulfilling existence. What d'you say to all that? I kill you.

I’m guessing most folks appreciate Lady Liberty’s generosity, but there’s always a few hater nutcases ….

Now we hear of the Canadians shutting down a terrorist plot to blow up and derail and train in Quebec. Glad the RCMP got to them first…

So very true…and sad. Thank you for saying how Americans feel.

Tigger: In this case I agree. There will always be those willing to bite the hand that feeds them. Of course, the FBI is saying the Russians did not give them enough info to properly follow up. But the FBI also ignored warnings leading to 9/11. Both our FBI and CIA have ill served our republic for years, and every attempt at reform gets shot down by both sides. They’re all afraid of what these two otherwise incompetent agencies have on THEM!

Thankfully this is a one in a million… but that’s still one too many to understand.

Don’t blame this on immigration. That is a very shallow perspective.

There are also people born and raised here who attack the United States (see the Tuscon shootings). I’m no fan of terrorists, but just like shooting your girlfriend before shooting yourself, it’s an American tradition as much as an immigrant one.

There’s a guy in Arkansas who thinks it’s OK to shoot politicians:http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/21/chris-nogy-arkansas-shooting-lawmakers_n_3128047.html

It’s a good point, but it is in the recovery from these horrific events WITHOUT giving up any freedoms that will signal our ultimate victory over terror. That means perpetually welcoming immigrants into our country with the faith that love of freedom will prevail over any ill will.

Immigrants made this country what it is today. We have prosperity enough to help the entire world, and we do. We also have home-grown terrorists – no need to blame immigration for terror. The roots of these acts are hatred and fear. Txmystic said it all.

I’ll choose to celebrate the immigrants I personally know who didn’t commit self-aggrandizing acts of mass murder.

Churchill: Not saying FBI and CIA didn’t/haven’t cooperated, just that we have been ill served by both agencies. We know of Hoover’s excesses. I am currently reading “Legacy of Ashes”, a history of the CIA taken from recently declassified documents. Sad that our main intelligence organizations have been so overconfident and so incompetent all these years.

I agree with Tigger on NK. Unfortunately, due to the inbred paranoia of that country, we have no actionable intelligence on what is REALLY going on. And, so far, we can’t trust the Chinese to give us accurate info. One of the biggest problems our CIA has had is that they have rarely double and triple checked their sources, or their biases. We have dropped too many agents into too many countries with little knowledge of what they are getting into. Most have been rarely heard from again, or were double agents who led “our” freedom fighters to death. Instead of focusing on INTELLIGENCE, our CIA has traditionally been more focused on action.

I wonder if the line in the final frame (“I kill you”) was a deliberate reference to Jeff Dunham’s “Achmed, the Dead Terrorist.” If so, that adds a new dimension to the cartoon.FYI-Achmed was a suicide bomber (who wasn’t very good). His frequent admonition to an audience is “Silence. I Kill You.” If Pat did this deliberately, I wonder how many people “got it?”
yohimbe60 about 11 years ago
Of course many of the terrors you experienced were committed by governments or “freedom” fighters our government bankrolls.

And yet religion is usually one of the few tribal bridges.
