I think it was all done for ease of presentation. If presented correctly, then the green ship pirate would have been in the background making his last remark, while the thieving rabbit would be in the foreground with his stolen base. You don’t fully get the impact of the green ship pirate looking down at the now vacant base from a distance.

No, water does not spin down in the other direction. The Coriolis effect is way too small to be noticeable outside of careful experimentation.
