Joan: My main worry about going to Paris is CLOTHES. I don't have anything NICE. Val: Just wear black. Joan: Black? But it'll be spring! Val: So, add some colorful scarves. Trust me, Parisians dress like New Yorkers. Joan: They wear Yankees hats? Val: They wear BLACK. Where have you BEEN?!

Oh, s’il vous plaît. Being American myself, I think it’s just a stereotype of French were only black.

News flash from Ye Olde Worlde: we don’t know where Joan’s been, but Val, obviously, hasn’t been to Paris lately.

Flash update…. gringos are expected to wear brown or blue shorts, wide short-sleeve shirts with big flowers over red, green or yellow (sometimes all three), sandals and a big camera hanging from their necks wherever they go (from desert to the north pole…. don’t forget to stick a bar or two of chewing gum in their mouths.

Sandals with socks! And to holler “Can’t anybody here speak English?” while looking for a Mc Donald’s

Goes on here too. My brothers helped my sister move to California. Drove her car out for her. Ate at Denny’s every day because one brother wouldn’t try anything new!

Joan, hit the Internet first to find some Parisian shops you can afford. Then take two outfits, a credit card, and a STRICT limit on what you can afford, both financially and spacially. Buy an inexpensive suitcase in Paris first, then fill it. The size of the suitcase depends on your budget and your airline size/weight restrictions. Bingo! No more clothes worries, And if you’re a godd clothes shopper, you’ll have something really special to wear when going out with Wally back home.

Best advice for women visiting Paris. Bring really simple stuff in neutral colors (black, grey beige, navy {NOT white; Paris may look clean, but it isn’t). When you get there start looking at how women on the street are accessorizing (like scarves). Then buy some accessories. They are cheap and plentiful, and working women in France are very cost-conscious. Much more satisfying results for much less time and money than buying entire new outfits. I worked there for 8 years.

I think they sell clothes in Paris . . . .

Yes, the French spend more on the basics (nice shoes, handbag) and buy cheap accessories. They don’t go over the top, just keep it elegant. Not something you can fake if you’re used to sweatpants and t-shirts, but you can at least look nice.

My brother got it from my Dad, a meat and potatoes man all his life. Said he’d never eat Mexican or Oriental because it always looked like somebody else ate it first!

I’d say wear American style clothes that are all in fashion. They need to show the French what Americans dress in.

It doesn’t matter what you wear, the French will be rude and arrogant

I thought you were supposed to wear navy and white horizontal stripes, wear a beret and have a cigarette hanging out of your mouth…
