Cathy Classics by Cathy Guisewite for January 13, 2019
Transcript:
Cathy: We used to run to the fax machine ten times a day... now we sit at our desks and e-mail. We used to race to the post office... now we order postage, supplies and pick-ups online. We used to haul files from office to office... now we scroll through them on the computer. We used to lift, bend, sort, stack, staple and zoom around... now we click, tap and scroll. Because of technology, at least 750 calories that used to get worked off in a normal business day now go into permanent, unwanted storage. To compensate, employees will have to exercise four more hours a day. Therefore, we propose the workday ends at 1:00 pm. Mr Pinkley: When might the workday begin? Charlene: Our caramel macchiatos were just delivered! We'd better go home now!

So very true. Now 2 of my 3 sons work from home so the commute is a flight of stairs, one of them has an upstairs office and one has a basement office. You have to schedule time each hour to do stretches.

In my dad’s day, he walked to the bus stop, took the bus into town, and walked from the drop-off point to their offices. The same was true with school children – walk to the bus stop, ride the bus. (or walk all the way to school.) Now, parents work from home and drive their kids one block to the school bus stop.

I have to admit: Cathy’s logic kind of works here. I’m still giving this one an ever-trusty [eye-roll], though.

I do a lot of my work at home, but I take a 2-3 mile walk every day (if I don’t go to a ballet class).
