Wait, I though Congress only elected on even years? Oh, a 1 year term special election for seat vacated for a congressman who was appointed senator for a senator that resigned to run a conservative think tank — money talks too, mr power!
Having cheated on and abandoned his wife, and lied to the entire state, he’s planning to marry his Argentinian trail buddy. I guess that counts for “family values” in conservative circles, since that kind of behavior is fine as long as you’re Republican.
^Can only point to my Texas/Arkansas right-wing southern moralist friend of years, who’s always offering me “marriage advice”. He’s been married three times, and may be going out again (tends to “cheat a bit”), while I’ve been married only 43 years to the same spouse. Sanford is closer to the party; like Newt.
But more recently, after cheating on your wife you can stay in office if you’re a Republican (Senator John Ensign, Newt Gingrich), but texting a photo of yourself on the internet gets you drummed out if you’re a Democrat (Weiner).
Red states have the highest divorce rates and teen pregnancy rates (unsurprising given their attitude towards birth control); blue states the lowest.Story on NPR: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=126653602“Of the 20 states with the highest divorce rates, 14 voted for John McCain in 2008.”http://www.theatlanticwire.com/national/2011/08/red-states-lead-nation-divorce/41797/
Never proven that Teddy was actually in the car. Proven in court documents about Gingrich, etc. Read The Bridge at Chappaquiddick if you can still find a copy.
