Considering a flat planet wouldn’t have gravity, I’m pretty sure “Sailing Into Space Oblivion Day” would be everyday.
People knew the Earth is round. Where Columbus differed was his belief that it is much smaller than it is, so that sailing across the Atlantic to Asia would be practical.
