"We're living on borrowed time. The world only has enough oil to fuel our way of life for the next fifty years. What will we do when it all runs out?" "Will we finally put technologies that use clean and renewable resources, like the sun, to greater use?" "Or will we continue to mine and drill, to try and find other burnable, carbon-emitting fuels knowing that the outcome will always be the same?" "I bet you 5 bucks we melt the ice caps and flood the earth ten years before the oil runs out." "I'm not betting 5 bucks on the apocalypse." "10 bucks?"

It’s okay Billy, you’re still young. You’ll eventually realize that they’ve been saying “We only have enough oil to last 50 years” for almost 100 years. If they were right the first time, we’d be 50 years into Road Warrior already. What the analysts always fail to mention (probably on purpose) is those estimates are based on current trends, technology and accessible oil deposits. Inevitably, we come up with more efficient ways of harvesting, refining and using oil well before the 50 years is up, which pushes the date 50 years farther into the future.Though it is kinda strange that we always have exactly 50 years of oil left, not 40 or 70 or 57 sometimes, always 50. Maybe the analysts have a fetish for that number?

HEMP!! Just about everything you can make with petroleum (Mellon interests) you can make with hemp oil. It’s even non-toxic and biodegradable. Henry Ford’s cars were made to run on oil and fuel made from hemp seed oil, and the car bodies were made from hemp fiber. One of the reasons it was made illegal in the first place. Second, was for its value as lumber and pulp to make paper requiring fewer chemicals than processing wood pulp. Hearst and DuPont (3rd reason) had to make money from their forests and chemical company. All about the money folks.

We can work the next 50 years to transition to anaerobic composted manure methane and cow flatulence.

I’d bet even money that we will have alternative energy as soon as the oil companies figure out how to monopolize the alternative sources.
