Yep, get ready for grass skis. Snowmageddon may have been the last hurrah. But what if Sandy had come a few months later?

Global warming is not religion, it is the observed truth across all branches of the life and earth sciences. Climate change denial is a cult, and meets all of the classic signs, as nicely demonstrated above by cult worshippers Scott and Ima. The cartoon is based on a report that most north-east ski resorts will probably be closed by 2039 due to observed and predicted trends in climate change (which, again, is actually happening here in the real world). The Colorado resorts are also doomed, but a few at higher altitudes will last longer, with Aspen restricted to the top quarter of its mountain by 2100.

I admire your willingness to stand up to overwhelming evidence to continue to believe what you want to. And I will concede that there will always be some sort of evidence, however small, that climate change has no man-made component.

But think about the next couple of generations with these two scenarios. First imagine that we decide to do nothing about greenhouse gasses, etc., because it doesn’t matter what we do; the earth will change the way it wants to. What’s the worst that could happen? The air gets poisoned, our food supplies die out, but at least a lot of people will have more money.

Okay, now let’s imagine that we work hard to reduce emissions and find alternative energy. What’s the worst that could happen? The world might die out anyway, and people who make money polluting will miss out on their windfall.

On the other hand, asthma and allergy issues would decrease, and we might be able to wean ourselves off fossil fuels and therefore dependency on the Middle East. AND we might find that the natural variations in weather patterns will be less dramatic and violent.

When making a decision that can impact all life on the only planet we’ve got, maybe we should ask the question: what happens if we’re wrong?

    So, are ya feeling lucky………punk?

Scientific evidence is a “cult”, but those who for 2,000 years have been POSITIVE a dead guy would come back, in THEIR LIFETIMES, is not?

Our local hill has had increasingly briefer operating days, for a decade, and didn’t open last year. We MAY catch a break this year, but things are getting worse for snowfall. WHich, means water for agriculture is a more serious problem, deniers just don’t get.

No need to acknowledge to cultists like Harely that there MIGHT not be a man-made component to global warming. That’s like saying that, according to quantum mechanics, there’s a finite possiblilty that a banana will vanish from the grocery store and appear in my ear. Global warming is real. It is caused by the carbon we’re burning. If you want to deny that, you have to account for a lot of data proving otherwise, something climate change deniers never can do. I’m always mystified by people like Harley. Do you deny that carbon is increasing? It’s measureable, and you can look up the measurements from Mona Kea. Do you deny that we’re producing carbon? It’s measurable, we know how much coal and oil we’re burning, you can look it up. Do you deny that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas? It’s measurable, it’s been known to be true. Do you deny that the planet is warming? It’s measureable, you can check the measurements. Where is your problem with the known facts? Is it purely because Al Gore HAS to be wrong for your world to be complete? Like every single poll is wrong and Romney HAS to win for my world to make sense?

Actually, deniers do have to fabricate false data. Because the global warming SCIENTISTS publish their data, it has to be passed by peer review, and right now there are thousands and thousands of researchers who have real, hard data that AGW is occurring. Including a Koch-funded FORMER denier, Richard Muller (one of the only legitimate climate scientists who denied it), who now says he was wrong, warming is occurring, and human action is contributing to it. I believe the story you are alluding to has been proven wrong by THREE DIFFERENT INVESTIGATIONS. So quit saying that; you’re just lying or ignorant. Which is the same thing we can say about your global warming views. There are only two sides now: the right side, and the wrong side. And you are on the wrong side.
