Depends on what Memories are associated with it. To me it conjures up Grandma (now gone) the scent of cookies in the oven, and the expectation of a “Family Dinner” where you actually WANT to see them all.
One of the little old ladies on my paper route watched LW on Friday night. When I collected for the week, I would go to her last and we would watch the rest of the show together. TV is so magical.
The Lawrence Welk Show was, I will admit, corny. But it was also very uplifting, cheerful and positive. And it was a whole lot better than most of the garbage that the networeks infict on us nowadays.
When Welk first appeared, some musicians I knew were excited – a big band with bassoon and alto flute! It faded rapidly when it turned out to be Guy Lumbago with a slight bounce. The accordion was no problem – Bill Haley’s original Comets had one.

It was that way at my house growing up. Brings back memories of my parents.

My dad (age 97) watches it whenever he can. I never liked it, but he points out the musicianship is excellent. He’s right!

I can’t imagine any one old enough to like reruns of the Lawrence Welk show could throw a football.
