This kept happening in my old dodge neon, the emission light would come on. Mechanic would check it out, reset…nothing wrong. Finally I figured out that if I pulled the fuse for 2 mins it would reset. Eventually turned out one of the computer chips was going bad.
I had a 2000 Dodge Intrepid. Then the “Check Engine” Light came on. I took it to two different mechanics…$6,000.00 to replace the engine! I only paid $5,000.00 for it. Ended up selling it for junk.
I drove my old jeep for over 5 years with half the engine warning lights constantly lit up or flickering. No one could tell me what was wrong and it wasn’t worth a mechanic’s fee for electrical work.Finally, while trying rid the jeep of massive mold from leaky roof trim I yanked all the carpeting and other cloth coverings out of it and found a lot of wires and fuses hidden in normally inaccessible spots. Electric windows had stopped rolling down so I changed out all the fuses out including the hidden ones I’d found and No more engine check lights! (unfortunately, windows still won’t roll down)
On most cars and trucks now all you have to dod id trun the key one and off and back on real fast and a code will so up/. Look that code up. My 2001 Dodge Dakota light came on. last week. Number 4 spark plug mis-fire. A ver common check enigne light trip is a loose gas cap. Yes, if the gas cap is loose it will trip the check engine light. By the way the one on my truck resets by it self after a day or so if nothing else trips it again.

It may take some work, but taking the light bulb out of the dash is very satisfying.

A little black electric tape over the light should solve the problem.
