Political correctness is one of the negative attributes involved in the ever lessening importance of the “melting pot” in America. Or melding pot. Such divisive and elitist notions as “cultural appropriation” are part of the problem.
Xenophobia: the cornerstone of MAGA. (/s)
And after we worked so hard to keep a lid on it.
E Pluribus Unum was a great motto and should become the U.S. motto again.
“American exceptionalism” was originally defined to represent this motto since the U.S. was the only country that was made up of all immigrants. Now it is defined by too many as if the U.S. is better at everything and can’t learn from other countries.
The real fear that put the resident in the White House was not the economic injustice but the imagined loss of privileges that the white supremacist leaning portion of the population would experience if the melting pot really worked — as it likely will — and our meritocratic constitutional democratic republic started functioning as it was intended to, with no particular advantage to any race/religion … oh the horrors!
Beautiful, Clay !
We CAN, at least, take heart in the fact that the average Republican voter is getting older and older by the day, and that fewer and fewer young people are registering as Republicans, so Natural Selection should take care of the problem for us soon enough!
It’s not a melting pot. It’s a stew pot, where each of us keeps your individual identity, but it is all wonderful, just the same. (That’s not original, BTW. Vasiliu Mircea, author of Which Way to the Melting Pot wrote it many, many years ago.)
Bonespurs is the acid test, caustic and virulent, eating away America’s soul.
Also that the demographics for hard line White Republicans is shrinking. Just as non-Hispanic Whites is not keeping up with all the non-whites reproduction.
You would think the American Dream would be easier to attain with all the advancements in technology and sciences. I am glad I am on the downside of my career but very weary for my kids.
