This illustrates the tragedy of raising kids on cheap peanut butter. Real peanut butter requires mixing because the oil rises to the top. And no salt.

I always hated peanut butter until I found about unadulterated peanut butter and found out what peanut butter really tastes like.

    Okay, maybe a little salt.

I feel you, Calvin. Like when they stopped sealing instant coffee with stiffened paper and started using plastic. If you don’t hear that “pop” when you break the seal with a spoon, the coffee just doesn’t taste as good.

Without rituals of order, we would not even have the illusion of control in any part of our lives. It is also important to dig into a carton of ice cream in exactly the same fashion.

Hobbes, those old Peanuts strips were pretty edgy and insidious, weren’t they? And to think they were crafted in the 1950’s…

What was the one where Calvin was demanding his mother make the sandwich a certain way, then in the last panel she remarks “Your Majesty’s sandwich”.

So… People/grown-ups expect children to fallow request/orders/rules but when a child expects grown-ups to do the same for them, grown-ups are like “whatever” and do it “whatever” and messed-up what a child was expecting on what/where/when/how…-It like… “Do as I say, not I do”, why would anyone expect a child to fallow request/orders/rules when grown-ups are nothing but hypocrites…??-@CalvinYou know what, make the sandwich yourself. You know people/grown-ups are just going to mess it all up (Anything/Everything, BIG TIME) and don’t (give a hoot) care at all…

I don’t recall EVER being this picky about my peanut butter (and jelly) sandwiches when I was a kid. They didn’t even have to be cut into triangles either; a whole sandwich was just fine with me. Loved them back then — love them still. Jif chunky peanut butter, Smucker’s jelly (blackberry’s my favorite) on whole wheat bread . . . YUM YUM!!!!!

Calvin most people can’t control their peanut butter, we wish it was always smooth on top but some of us always seem to get stuck with the extra crunchy stuff.Just like life, you have to put up with a few nuts along the way.

@JohnDiFool: It’s fun to see Lucy in her early years, especially interacting with Charlie Brown. She managed to make his life difficult, regardless of her age. Calvin seems to have some of Lucy and some of Linus in him, among others.

Just wondering, did Charlie Brown go to his house and make the sandwichs or did he go to Lucy’s and make them? They are not related to each other.

@Robert Andersen: Presumably, Lucy is playing at Charlie Brown’s house, but it isnt really explained. Since there are no adults in Peanuts, in this case Charlie Brown has to play the adult role.
