Hobbes is back!!!!!
Good thinking, Calvin!
Maybe you can do your homework on the sled ;)
A pity the hardware store thing didn’t develop.
Calvin, you’re required to grow older. Growing up is optional.
maturity is when you let the kid inside you out to play - but just until it’s time to do the dishes.
Calvin, the philosopher.
Who could be Calvin!
synonyms include old-aged, fogey, codger, and “but you used to be so much fun!”
Yukoner, so right you are!
They seem so happy on the sled!
Yes indeed LuvH8! That is so very true.
Don’t let that little genius fool u. His wheels r spinning his evil idea as he sleds down the hill.
Hi everyone, i am new here and just wanted to say hi to all.
Hi, TheMortal, glad to see you, welcom!
Childhood is short?… Mine hasn’t ended yet and there seems no foreseeable end in sight!
I think I have a Calvin at home… Man oh man am I in trouble!
Wiser truth has never been spoken……
You can put those words in the mouth of Socrates, Plato, Schopenhauer, Shakespeare Gandhi or Lord Bacon, and they would be quite correct and appropriate in threre…
Out of the mouth of a child comes these awesome, simple truths. Perhaps we should communicate with our inner child more often.
With homework, the sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up!
Maturity = death??????????????
This is one that I remember from the original run and still quote. Love it!!!
Keep him on the straight and narrow, Hobbes. Oh and watch out for that TREE!
Truer words … assuming one survives to maturity.
LuvH8 - lol!
The Mortal - welcome! glad you could join!
One of the greatest fallacies that humanity believes is that childhood and maturity are incompatible - either in a child or in an adult.
Sorry, Calvin. I know exactly how you feel, but your choices have consequences no matter what your age. Recognizing that, by definition, is maturity.
That said, keep Ecclesiastes 11:9-10 well in mind, and have fun. :)
LuvH8, we were actually thinking along the same lines. Some people just never grow up.
this has gotta be one of my favorites! i use this line every day of my life.
Maturity can be overrated. Childhood should be wonderful.
short things first - simple and elegant.
frpom the mouths of babes.
always put off until tomorrow, what you don’t wish to do today.
Welcome The Mortal you will find comments just or more entertaining at times then the strip. It’s fun commenting here.
All children need homework. In Calvin’s case going out and playing first will use some of that energy then he can setle down to work since the day will be going through to night and sometimes what seems like a lot of homework is not.
The last panel was obviously drawn for the t-shirt and coffee mug industries. A bit cynical perhaps, but wistfully kute kartooning is a business like any other and I hope Watterson collected serious royalties on it. Love means never having to say you’re sorry, after all… and love is all you knead.
calvin is often wise and mature beyond his years, but it’s still just a good excuse to get out of doing his homework. the really mature thing would be to finish the work and then play.
ocean17: Bill Watterson resolutely refused to go down the t-shirt and coffee mug marketing path throughout his active career and to this day. Practically everything ‘Calvin and Hobbes related’ you see outside of his book compilations and these few sites are pirated material.
The third panel is just a prime example of Bill’s artistic and life wisdom genious. I’m sure it was drawn just to get the point across and complete this one day’s strip and did not have any significant ‘marketing’ undercurrents.
You beat me to it mfcoace. All C&H items are not licensed and are pirated. I especially hate the boy peeing on stuff who is made to look like Calvin.
Again pefectly stated mfcoace.
What is this “maturity” thing everybody speaks of??
No clue, sounds awful though, lol.
I still cheat on some of my chores , best fishing or drinking beer or laying about is done instead of lawn mowing etc
Hey Conversen: Sephiroth has been erased. What did he/she say? Do people get erased because of flags??? Still wonderin’!
There’s no reason why he can’t do his homework later. Go Calvin!
LuvH8, why do you keep spitting all over the comments? Aren’t you always telling everyone to play nice? “Blowing raspberries” at people isn’t very nice. Walk your talk dear.
I’M STILL LIVING MY CHILDHOOD AT 53.
I bid 56!
Seriously, Calvin’s idea of “play” is so much more real and healthy than what a lot of kids have nowadays, perhaps because of electronic barrage, increasingly-effective TV ads, and/or more inescapable peer pressure.
Any parent ought to be happy if their kid gets outdoors and creates play after school. Especially with friends and/or fantasy. (I’m not going to quibble about which Hobbes is.)
LuvH8, I think you are always nice!
Right there with you, James the Great and Magnificent!
Thank you Lonewolf
I hear ya!
Ohhh, jeez, puberty
