   The military occupation of Iraq is possibly the single most stupid and dishonest move ever made by an American president.

   It’s uncanny how Trudeau brings that stunted creep to life. At this point I’d much rather he didn’t.

   Although the sequence is funny in its molar-grinding way. Dumb interviews Dumber.

   With a lunk that size, you got to leap at his face like a rabid squirrel and hold on to his nose with your teeth while vigorously clawing his head. Trust me, it’s the only way.

   “High-ho Silver” ??? Oh man, not even in 1980 would a kid have known that one. Lynn reveals her own generation.

   It’s true, Calvin is especially susceptible to bullies because he has no friends. Being a loner is his chosen lifestyle and it shouldn’t come with this kind of penalty.

   But it’s reality, and this is where we loners get the moxie to defend ourselves later. It’s a loner learning experience. A Moe eventually comes along for every single one of us, and better sooner than later.

   I don’t remember how this story turns out, so I’m following with interest. I seem to remember more encounters between Calvin and Moe.

   Great draughtsmanship in the comix peaked a long time ago. The best examples were the soaps: Mary Worth, Judge Parker, Rex Morgan MD, Apartment 3-G, Abbie n’ Slats and Steve Canyon come to mind, all in the 15 or 20 years or so before 1970, although most of them are still around and still being drawn very well. Check them out before calling this artwork the best in any comic.

   GA began life as a whimsical yet warm-hearted family soap. Scancarelli’s predecessors on GA were better than he is at storytelling, creating characters and atmosphere, and yup, drawing too. He draws well, but his own flamboyant kiddie-comic style conflicts with the traditional subdued semi-realism of the strip, and while he tries to preserve the latter, as time goes by he can’t repress the former. The result sometimes jarringly looks like the same frame has two artists drawing different parts of it. (For eg, check out the circus animals versus Walt and the other humans in the last story.)

    Throwing Hobbes at the problem is a non-starter. Outside Calvin’s imagination, he’s just a stuffed tiger.

    He’ll just have to dig deep and find the answer in himself. It’s a solvable problem. Solving it is almost a rite of passage for a kid. It usually only has to be done once.
