Laura; I'm proud of you. You only had a minor meltdown this birthday. Adam: I'm sorry. I don't like getting older. Birthdays are hard for me. At least it wasn't as bad as the "Tenth Tee Tantrum of '08." Or the "Fudruckers Freak out of '11." Laura: Oh, I kind of enjoyed that one.
The catch-phrase of my generation was “Never trust anyone over thirty”, as if one’s life as a rational, reasonable person ended then. As for me, when I turned thirty, I threw a party for all the kids who worked at the horse ranch where I boarded my horse—I wanted them to know that thirty was a great age to be. And so was forty, and fifty, and sixty! And next year I’ll celebrate seventy with the same joy and optimism. Poor Adam. His dislike of birthdays is as sad as it is funny, but I’ve known real people with the same attitude, and they are just sad. Life is too precious to regret the passing of even a single minute. Celebrate every one of them!
