I guess you could put a file in this one…

“Two Egg Cake” (Made for family birthday cakes.)

    2 cups flour
    2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter (margarine may be used, but it is not recommended)
    1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (not artificial), or lemon, or almond extract
    2 eggs
    2/3 cup milk

Cream butter and sugar together thoroughly.
    Add vanilla, blend well.
    Add eggs, beat well.
Sift together all dry ingredients; flour, baking powder and salt, (in separate bowl)
Add alternatively with the milk to the butter and sugar mixture (dry ingredients first and last.
Pour into layer cake pans (2) (for birthday cakes) (thoroughly wash small coins or other favours, wrap them in tinfoil, and place between the cake layers. Warn people they’re there.) or 8 inch square pan (Don’t forget to butter and flour the pans). Spread jam or other filling between the layers too.
Bake layer cakes at 375 degrees for about 25 minutes.
Bake square cake at 350 degrees for 35-45 minutes.
Use the second rack. Top rack is first.
Both the layer and square cakes are done when a knife inserted in the centre comes out clean. It’s obvious if it’s not.
    .

    “Boiled Frosting”

    1 cup granulated sugar
    1/2 cup water
    1 teaspoon vinegar (white)
    2 egg whites
    3/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Boil sugar water and vinegar until sugar dissolves and syrup reaches 238 degrees. (Or until a little syrup will form a soft ball when dropped into cold water.)
Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry.
Gradually beat in syrup; beating constantly until frosting holds its shape. Beat in vanilla. (Food colouring may be added at this point to dye the frosting)
    Spread on cold cake.
Yield: Sufficient for top and sides of an 8 inch layer cake.
Though soft, this frosting will cut nicely after standing a couple of hours

The file was the only edible part of the cake.

A file won’t do much good in modern jails.

I think he means the cake was so tough and hard he would have needed a side grinder to get the metal file out. I guess she is not a very good cook.

If you don’t know anything about computer files, you probably won’t get the joke. New Favorite.

Today’s Bloom County makes me ask this question in this strip. How long will it be until only the “oldtimers” get this strip? We will probably reach the point where we will deal with files with no concern for what they look like or what app runs them. They will just work. And the “kids” will not get this strip at all.

Not while people keep buy apps that only fully support proprietary formats.
