I don’t think they had recurved bows back in those days.

I usually just hang up on the sales calls and scam calls. Monday, though, when a really nasty-sounding person called and asked to speak to me (after a recording beep at the start of a call), I just answered with “no, you may not” in a pleasant voice and hung up.

In real life. Does anyone know if Hormel has commented on the use of its brand name this way?

Since it’s now a universal term and free, I doubt it. Besides, there’s no such thing as bad publicity; the name is remembered but the context is forgotten.

    Thanks for the URL link.

Now that spam is in the Oxford dictionary as “unwanted messages” Hormel’s worry about being accused of naming their flagshiop product after spam will probably come true.

A 57", 3600 year old recurved yew bow was found in Lake Ledro, Italy.

I remember the good old days, when “spam” was what was sent TO an offending advertiser, in bulk and from thousands of people. The idea was to stuff their in-boxes and email servers hoping to disable their operation. It’s ironic how the meaning got reversed, and quickly.
