I loved it when the many ultra conservatives on this site at first accused President Obama of being a “War Monger” when he proposed using cruise missiles and RPV’s on the Syrian Military (and possible even Assad himself). President Obama had no intention of having our “boots on the ground” ever invade Syria. After all,we would have the Israelis to do that job if necessary!

Heck, he was not even going to risk the lives of our pilots, as he only sent navy missile vessels to that area, and sent no aircraft carriers (no aircraft carriers, then no piloted aircraft)! What he wanted to do he succeeded at brilliantly. And that was to scare both Assad and possibly even Putin into at least seemingly being reasonable about the Syrian chemical weapons.

And now those same ultra conservatives are accusing him of giving into Putin, and thus becoming a wuss!! I even saw some posts suggesting that we would be better off with a president named Putin. Yeah, that is correct. our freedoms (as fragile as they are anyway) would be so much better off in the hands of a guy that was the ex head of the Soviet KGB!!

When you are against something and you have no restraint or scruples about what you say and do you can jump to whatever opposite side of what you were arguing even if it is the opposite of where you started out. (ACA was Republican all the way.)

Bush, jr threatened Saddam and Qadhafi over their WMD. Both got rid of them. Once he knew they were gone, Bush, jr sent the troops into Iraq, which worked out very well with far fewer US casualties than if he’d sent the troops while Saddam still had vast quantities of nerve gas.

And Obama didn’t send the troops into Libya at all: he toppled the government for a few millions, and without risking the lives of anyone except one ambassador and three lower level diplomats. Much better than squandering 4,000 US troops and more than $1 trillion to completely destroy a country. Thrift, Horatio, thrift!

Once Putin has helped al-Assad get rid of all his chemical weapons, there will still be plenty of time for Obama to completely destroy Syria and put Sunni Islamists in charge as Saudi Arabia AND Israel AND the UK AND France have asked him to. Saudi Arabia, the UK, and France plan to pick up the pieces once Syria is destroyed. Israel thinks the Sunni Islamists will go to war with the Shia Islamists and thereby reduce the threat to Israel. So a few million Syrian Christians will be killed: Christians are of no concern to Saudi Arabia or Israel, and Syrians are of no concern to the UK or France.

And in Syria, there will be no threat to any US diplomats, since they’ve all been recalled, so a great gift for Obama to give his friends before he leaves office, with no risk to US lives and at a cost of just a few millions.

Over all, a very reasonable post. My only negative is that president Obama is NOT even a Muslim, let alone an Islamist, he is a Christian. But he realizes that the US is indeed not under any obligation to protect the people of ANY religion. If we were to protect Christian religious minorities everywhere in this world, then we would have to be at war with a great many more countries than just in the Middle East!! Besides which, if Israel were to indeed invade and take over Syria, they would at least allow the Christians there free passage to leave Syria. When we invaded Iraq, there were some 2.5 million Christians living there under the relatively secular Saddam, but our invasion so angered the Muslims there (both Sunni and Shia) that the very name Christians became an anathema to many Muslims that originally were willing to live reasonably peacefully with those very Christians. And now there are less than 500,000 professing Christians in Iraq. So much for GW Bush and Company spreading Christianity to the Middle East!!

By the way, most of those professing Iraqi Christians went to Syria. Where there has been a large Christian presence since the time of the apostle Paul. There, only to be caught in the middle of a Muslim Civil War!!

You mean that a good Republican idea, can not then be supported by reasonable Democrats? If that is truly the case, (and the other way around also) then this country really is in deep trouble!!

LANDERS: 70 to 125 civilians were executed EACH DAY of Saddan Hussein’s 8,000 day rule, a total of 600,000 civilians. Those with BDS consider this “relatively peaceful.

What actually happened is that Obama made a stupid, amateur mistake by drawing a red line without any inkling of what he would do if that line was crossed. He didn’t bother finding out what Congress would support, or what the American public would support, or what our allies would support; he just made the statement without thinking, as usual, backed by nothing more than his own arrogance.

Then, when the line was crossed, he spent days trying to argue that he didn’t need Congressional approval to strike; but at the last minute, when it was painfully clear that the public would never back him, he decided to get a vote, knowing full well that it would never pass, and that he would never have to follow through. But he could blame Congress for that.

But then his Secretary of State made yet another idiotic gaffe in suggesting that Syria could avoid strikes if they turned over their chemical weapons. He spent the next two days trying to talk back that statement…

Until Russia actually made it happen, thus saving their ally from any real consequences, and making the POTUS and Sec. Of State look like idiots in one move. Checkmate.

But now, we’re expected to believe that Obama actually had this whole thing planned… yeah, sure.

The truth is, Obama is a blundering idiot. Kerry isn’t much better. The two of them were rescued from their own incompetence by Putin of all people, who did it purely to advance his own position in the region. Assad isn’t going to turn in any weapons – he won’t have to. Russia will slow-walk the whole thing until it’s forgotten. Obama and Kerry will stomp their feet and blow wind for a while longer to keep up appearances, but nothing more than that. In a few years, the rebels will be crushed and Assad will still be there.

Face it – there was no “threat of force” involved here. Obama was NEVER going to launch anything more than some token strikes to make a political point. And once he passed the decision to Congress, he was never going to do ANYTHING. Period. Anyone who believes otherwise is deluding themselves.
