    @Ms. Ima

“Excessive gun laws hasn’t stopped Chicago from criminals having guns.”

They can currently just smuggle them in from states who don’t have very good gun control laws, or use the many loop holes built in to existing laws. That might be why people are pushing for a unified standard to be applied to the entire nation.

Yes we do, to make a valid point.

If you think that the government is here to protect or look out for you, you are sorely mistaken. Heck, even the Supreme Court has ruled that the local police have no obligation to defend the individual citizen. The only person that has an obligation to look out for you and your family is…..YOU.

Gun laws do not work. It has been illegal to own a fully automatic weapon without federal government approval since (get this) 1934! Yet if you listen to MSNBC and read the news you would think that these are on every dang street corner in the U.S.

The “Assault Weapons Ban” did nothing to reduce crime from 1994-2004 (using the government’s own statistics, yet people are clamoring for Congress to pass it again.

Very few weapons are purchased by people without a background check at gun shows. Yet the media does not report this. The let the President use a 30-40 year old statistic of “40%” unchecked and unchallenged.

The media lets the Vice President talk about shooting through a door at at unknown target. They let the VP talk of shooting a shotgun outdoors at no target. Both in violation of every tenet of firearms safety taught to me in every firearms safety class from those I had in the military to safety classes and magazine articles.

The police could not find a scumbag in Watertown, MA until they lifted a lockdown and a homeowner found the guy for them. Don’t get me wrong, I live 30 miles from Boston, and those police officers did a most outstanding job in their efforts to track this scumbag – but they cannot protect you.

Let’s not forget that the Federal government prosecuted only 80 or so cases of people lying to obtain firearms last year. Of those 80 cases, only 18 were convicted. Out of 74,000 KNOWN attempts by individuals of LYING on the forms.

And you think passing another law that the government cannot or will not enforce is going to actually solve a problem? You are way off base if this is the case.

Funny how no one is clamoring to pass mental health funding – the 800 pound gorilla in the room over so many of these murders.

30,000 firearms related deaths every year. Almost 2/3 of these are suicides. Never mind the people that shoot others. Most of the remaining 1/3 are scumbag gang bangers who get their money selling drugs. Wow. Instead, we would rather pass another law that will likely do nothing, and not be enforced (given past practice) instead of doing what might actually be needed…….enforce the laws on the books – but that would just be logical.

Idiots with guns are our biggest problem. In the last few days there were two incidents in which spoiled brats picked up their shot guns and killed 4 or 5 people each.
And there was no armed right wing savior around to stop it.

Yeah why is that? Sorry there are worst things in this world then a nut with a rifle, Boston for example.

Of course – we’ve eradicated terrorism here altogether, sure, we’re doing great! We even pay terrorists to live here – that’s why they don’t hate us any more!

Ban guns and the weapons traffic across the US southern border will reverse direction.

Or MAYBE, if they started to allow people without criminal convictions to carry firearms for their own protection, and added an additional 15 years sentence that cannot be served concurrently with any other sentence, and cannot be reduced for good behavior, for each use of a gun in a crime of violence, like robbery, rape, kidnapping, assault, murder, home invasion, etc; then they would be able to reduce the gun crime violence.

You know religion is a dangerous thing too. People believing the wrong religion might become violent. Maybe we should ban CHRISTIANITY because you leftist think that is too dangerous.

No. People have certain RIGHTS. These rights are NOT granted by government, but are from God. Government sinply recognizes these rights exisit, among them the right to self defense.

It is not a lack of gun control laws that makes Chicago and other single party democrat controlled cities unsafe. It is the lack of freedoms that the democrats have impossed in attempts to install themselves as the permanent ruling class that has caused this problem. It is the lack of positive male role models in the black community that has caused 13% of the population to commit 50% or more of the murders in the country. This is the fault of the policies of the democrat party

And why is it that no one was armed to stop it? Do you mean that there wasn’t an armed police officer available to put an end to the violence before it started?

Given that the police were unable to stop these attacks, do you suppose that if the civilians were allowed to carry firearms more freely, that one of them might have been able to stop the attacks sooner? If just one life was saved, wouldn’t that be sufficient cause to make civilian carrying of firearms justified?

I agree that idiots are our biggest problem. Idiots in congress and the state legislatures, who will vote to take away our rights for a worthless promise of security that they can never deliver upon.

When I carry, and I do about as often as I wear socks, I know that I will not be using my firearm in a manner contrary to law. I do not represent a danger to myself or others. In fact I am someone that hates violence so much, that I want to prevent or end the threat of violence as soon as is humanly possible.

I have had to draw my weapon on two occasions. In both instances the person who was the threat suddenly remembered an urgent appointment elsewhere. No shots were fired, but if I had to, I would have shot without hesitation or regret. I carry a handgun because carrying a policeman is too heavy and would cost about 150 dollars an hour to do so.

If presented with your situation of an armed “spoiled brats who picked up their shotguns and killed 4 or 5 people each” then I would not have hesitated to engage them to the best of my ability. Perhaps I would have been successful, and saved a couple of lives. Perhaps not. Handguns vs shotguns is not a good position to be in, but it certainly beats ball point pen vs. shotgun.

Perhaps we should modify HIPPA to allow for the reporting of individuals who are subject to mental health treatments. But then you are faced with the conundrum, do you want people seeking help for their mental conditions, or do you want them refusing to seek help in order to keep their right to bear arms?

Would have the Irish Famine happened if there was a “second amendment type document” at that time in Ireland?

We are the descendants of those who escaped that genocide… Remember Ireland is still one of the only counties that has less of a population they had in 1800 as compared to today.
