Who pays Rove’s salary and expenses? Is he privately funded? By whom? Is he funded by taxpayer dollars? If so, WHY? John Boehner, can you answer us that?

“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!” — Upton SInclair (1934).

He “is dull, naturally dull; but it must have taken him a great deal of pains to become what we now see him. Such an excess of stupidity, sir, is not in Nature.” — Samuel Johnson (1709-1784).

Johnson was speaking of Thomas Sheridan, but I think it one of the great barbs of history. It doesn’t really apply to Rove. Rove is a very smart man, I won’t dispute it, but smart is not the same thing as wise. Many of Rove’s sort have brains, what they lack is wisdom.

As a conservative I wish Rove and the Tea party would go away

Let’s see: Nixon was a sleazebag back when Joe McCarthy was a sleazebag. Rove was a sleazebag much later in Nixon’s sleazebag career. Where is Edward R. Murrow when we need him?

Oh, yeah, Cheney. Back when Rove said it was dishonorable to bring a politician’s health into the discussion.

What’s really funny is listening to the same Tea-Party folks who were bashing Rove as a RINO only a couple of years back now rushing to defend him

It’s good to remember that Rove is only performing the same skills he learned when working for Nixon — spreading lies and rumors. The difference this time is that he was recorded doing so.

If I remember correctly, Rove’s mentor was good old Lee Atwater the Master Of Mud

I’m not sure that what they lack is wisdom. I think I’d be more likely to call it a lack of a firm moral sense, which is in fact quite separate from intelligence per se.

Moral sense? But there are many moralities. A person can have what my dad likes to call “moral clarity” and still do terrible things. But when I say wisdom, I also mean something quite different from intelligence per se. In fact, I suspect one can be quite wise without being quite bright.
