Back in October, the debt ceiling wasn’t raised, it was suspended until 7 Feb ‘14. The debt kept going up. But the Treasury says it has finagled, and will finagle, so the old, pre-October debt ceiling still hasn’t been hit. But it will be. The Treasury says definitely before the end of February.

Of course, no one has any idea when the Treasury will REALLY hit the ceiling. Jeffrey Dorfman says we have months left, and it won’t be a big problem if we do hit the ceiling. Senator Reid says May, ‘14 before the Treasury REALLY hits the ceiling.

The Treasury keeps saying that we have no idea how bad it will be if we really do hit the ceiling, but it will definitely be terrible.

Polls showed the Republicans in Congress apparently lost a lot of support from the October ’slimdown.’ (But we know those polls were biased, just as the one on November 4, 2014 undoubtedly will be.) So now the Republicans are promising a debt-ceiling showdown redux. As Fox correctly points out, the Republicans will not have the slightest responsibility if the debt ceiling suspension isn’t extended before 7 Feb ‘14, it will be entirely the fault of the Democrats.

Of course, ’What Republicans see as a good opportunity to do something for the country, Democrats view as a “ransom” ’

Though both parties are full of crooks and liars, someone has to do something about the ridiculous amount of debt that this nation is carrying.

Someone has to say we need to live within our means.

The Progressive Left and Democrats love rising government debt, rising taxes, and deficit spending. All of that increases poverty and increased poverty begets more dependence on government.
That results in the now impoverished wanting their government handouts so they vote Democrat / Progressive to get more government. In the end they get a dictatorship where the 1% and government run everything and have all the money.

Did you ever check into what Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2 did to our national deficit?

The conservatives here have yet to do the first thing to convince me that the debt is a bad thing ….All they seem to be able to do is wring their hands, cry and insult……Now, if we had a conservative RT, GP, or Mechanic….this might help…

Reagan proved that debt doesn’t matter.
At least thats what all the Republicans said at the time.
GW Bush ran up the debt with two unpaid wars and tax breaks.
It’s OK when a republican does it.

If you aren’t willing to discuss taxes, you’ve proved that the debt is not your biggest concern. So quit worrying about it.

I’m not sure I understand this cartoon.
    .
Is he saying that legalizing MJ and collecting the taxes will alleviate the Debt Ceiling crises by raising revenue? (Which is interesting in that I don’t hear the right choking on their outrage that legal MJ is just a scheme to get Young America to pay our bills ala the bile they spew about how terrible it is that they be expected to buy insurance so the insurance pool is filled.
    .
Which brings us to the idea that, with MJ legal, the youth had better have insurance because they are going to be doing stupider and stupider things that will require Dr.s with needle and thread. But I digress).
    .
If so then is Toles anti this in that he says “Try one with fewer victims” refers to the reefer users?
    .
Or is he saying that Shouting about MJ Legalization allows them to argue about something other than the Debt Ceiling?
    .
Or is he saying that the side effects of the debt ceiling “crises” is the creation of more victims? (Much like the side effects of prescription drugs are worse than the Side Effects of MJ.)
    .
The cartoon is just too ambiguous.
    .
Maybe it depends on the Phunt…
    .
    I don’t get it.

Oh, you’re worried about spending? How about fighting the most expensive war in history, chasing Weapons of Mass Destruction that didn’t exist, while simultaneously fighting the second most expensive war in history chasing a guy who was in another country? Did you object to any of that spending? No? But when you see me getting Social Security or a poor person getting food, that’s a waste, right?

They never look or listen, Kris…“you don’t know your past, you don’t know your future” has never been so apropos in reference to the neo-con ilk—-

I hold out hope that the majority of voting Americans will see clearly the improvements made since Shrub & Co. rode off into the sunset, and vote another Democrat in for Chief Executive after President Obama takes his well earned bow!

    .
It’s not what they don’t know that bothers me, it’s what they’re dead certain of that’s just plain old wrong!
    .
They see turn of the century America as the sweet spot. They think that the regulatory climate that settled in on this nation in the second quarter of the 1900s is what ruined this country.
    .
They don’t even know that their “Constitutionalist” punditry isn’t about the TEA Party it’s about Pre TR not TEA! The Kochs want the deal that Rockefeller had. They want to out JP Morgan JP Morgan. They want the right to hire the Pinkertons when the employees demand safer working conditions!
    .
“If you don’t know your history you’re doomed to repeat it” is advice I bring to mind everytime I consider engaging Russia in a land war! It doesn’t hold a candle to the stupidity that is required of people trying to reinstitute the absolute nadir of the living situation of the common American working man.
    .
It’s one thing to make the same mistake twice, but it is a whole different thing to insist on re-establishing the exact same disaster.

    .
A shrinking work force, increasing dependent class and devastation of our health care. How is this a good thing that you want more of?
