Those cards he’s holding are all the different tax hikes he’s considering.

Present revenues will not, can not, meet present and necessary obligations. Spending cuts alone cannot, will not, solve the problem as even honest conservatives like Ben Stein admit. The “no new taxes” pledge is a pledge to NOT solve our fiscal problems, it is a pledge to make America a Deadbeat Nation.

Given that reality (and it is reality), the only questions are: From whom is that additional revenue going to come? And, having cut spending to the minimum necessary to keep the country from going down the tubes, how little additional revenue can we get by on?

If all those cards are tax changes that the president is considering, the fact that the elephant is holding no cards at all is a measure of the fact that the elephant is still living in the land of fantasy and wishful thinking.

But there is a nice, neat answer for the elephant. Let the country go over the fiscal cliff, let the automatic tax hikes go into effect, THEN make a deal lowering them again, but not to the 2012 levels. The overall effect will be to raise taxes above present levels, but the GOP will be able to claim that they held firm and cut a deal to LOWER taxes! As a maneuver it would be utterly hypocritical and dishonest, but it might work very well for them. And when has hypocrisy and dishonesty stood in the way of … certain … politicians? Of course, there is still the shape of that “tax cut” to be considered, and that still requires the question, From whom are you going to get that additional revenue?

This is brilliant. Let the bubble people keep living in their bubble until the revolution is complete, comrades.

The Republicans always have the Blazing Saddles offence… You know, when Clevon Little rides into town and the townspeople are all against him… He puts his gun under his own chin and says “Nobody move…” Except that the Republicans are willing to shoot.

The answer is simple. Cut taxes. Cut expenditures. And live with the lower quality life style that brings.

That’s like playing 4 aces and a king, but Obama IS holding those cards and he needs to play them.

“Bring abck the tax rates on the wealthy that were in effect during the 1950’s and 1960’s.”

Oh no! Not a Keynesian! Didn’t you know that Keynesian economics is the product of the antichrist!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!! I mean, just because it lead to the best economy in the world and made the US the ‘golden age’ that Conservatives dream of getting back to (well that and unions), we all know that going back to serfdom is the ‘one true way’. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!

Actually, I agree. My point is that everyone seems to be saying that it’s OK if the other guy suffers, but not me.

“… everyone seems to be saying that it’s OK if the other guy suffers, but not me…” AGREED. Specifics were talked about in the Super Committee. No one wants to talks specifics anymore.

We shall see soon enough if it is possible for everyone to tighten their own belt- all at the same time.
If we can do this, we can build a rocket-ship to go… maybe as far as… the Moon. But, I fantasize…
