The problem with Light Rail in my experience (in San Francisco) is that, if one car breaks down, others can’t get around it. One malfunctioning car can cripple the whole system for hours, if it’s in the right place.
Of course, it also has its advantages. Much of the track system is underground, with a few strategically-placed stops, so it’s good for funnelling large numbers of people in and out of downtown during rush hours.
