^ Nothing we say here affects what the government will say or do. My not jumping up and down and going “ah hah!!” at what I already knew was the case isn’t suddenly going to destroy civilization as we know it. How many times do I harp about the civil injustice of the LGBT community and things remain the same (a lot)? What we say here is for giggles and to compare/contrast ideas and to vent, but it doesn’t affect anything. What it is we DO (for example, my getting out in my community and giving speeches for equal rights and awareness) affects things.
My not chastising Republicans over an issue of obvious hypocrisy (shock and awe) – I mean, come on, “we’re going to read the Constitution the first day of Congress and every law has to be constitutional” vs. “we’ll defend DOMA to the death” or “we must stop spending and reduce the deficit and everything from now on will do so…… except tax cuts, defense spending, gift taxes, et. al don’t have to do that.” – this isn’t new. I didn’t feel like getting my panties in a wad and saying, “hey, some hypocrisy.” Well, tomorrow, I probably am not going to point out some Democrat hypocrisy either, just mellow.
But as to whether or not it matters, I didn’t say it didn’t, nor that this shouldn’t be brought up. Obviously these are all issues, just like slashing education budgets (I’m a product of public education and government loans for college) isn’t something I’m going to just blithely agree to. It’s $5 billion a year, I just am interested more in seeing how this plays out in politics, not necessarily on jumping up and down here today pointing it out. I’m just not feeling it today. Doesn’t mean I don’t care, nor that I think that defending $5 billion in subsidies automatically gives carte blanche to a more grievous social ill. I’m hoping Democrats will put up a fight, but 1) that’d require they have a spine and some sort of consensus, and 2) I’m cynical of everything right now, and just mellow.
