Five liberals give another liberal somebody else’s money. It’s just politics as usual.

Here’s Hope all over again. Let me just add to that cartoon a ball and chain to Obama’s right ankle, to represent those Americans that cheer every setback or delay Obama encounters.

Why do the righties like Rush, and his toadies like Nomad, hate peace so much???
It’s obvious that they never went to war.

The Peace Prize is one of the more interesting Nobel prizes because it does not merely represent accomplishments. And it is often given to people who have not accomplished their goals. Rather, it’s regularly given to folks in the middle of something not finished, but are working for peace, and whose efforts made a big impact that year.
Having said that, I think Obama sees the award as an unwelcome distraction – one he would have happily done without. However, I disagree with those who think he could have easily or gracefully refused it. That would have simply earned him another round of criticism. In essence, no matter what he did, many would scream.

I have a sneaking suspicion that they REALLY awarded the prize to him for not being W—and as a sort of final slap or nose-thumbing at Bush. If that’s true then the charge of getting it too early becomes moot, as Obama has not been W for most (if not all) of his life so far.

Liberals win prizes for promoting peace because liberals promote peace. Obama only needed nine months to redirect the foreign policy of the world’s foremost superpower away from the “clash of civilizations” model and towards intercultural unity against extremist violence. Right-wingers’ plan for promoting peace is, “After we kill all the bad guys and bully the rest of the world into doing what we want, everything will be hunky-dory”.
The winner in 2006 was Mohammed Yunus, the guy who figured out we could promote social stability in the third world with ‘micro-loans’. That’s a capitalist solution that American conservatives could have come up with, if only they gave a dang about the world outside the borders of the red states.
When the Nobel committee offers prizes for arrogance, name-calling and mindless devotion to dogma, Republicans will win in a walk.

They think if they give him the “prize” they can lead him around with it. But just look who won it in the past and we can see how baseless the “prize” really is.

Paulo Santos…tell us what qualifications you think Obama offered for his job or the prize?

Magnaut - how about the possibility of the US working with the rest of the word instead of a ham fisted poli who couldn’t control an “inner circle” that left the world on the edge of destabilization.

Magnut, can you name one person in the Bush administration who deserved it by comparison?

The Nobel chairman said that he understands all the doubts that people have about the prematurity of Obama’s prize. But he said the prize was given in order to “strengthen Obama’s hand”. In other words, they have confidence that Obama will accomplish much more if only people would get off his bleeepin’ back!! I say it’s worth it.

Obama stopped the creation of missile defense batteries in Poland and the Czech Republic, which brought Russia back to the table, where the two countries are talking about nuclear arms limitations again. He is also engaging Iran in diplomacy instead of invading it. He addressed the Arab world, telling it that respects it and does not believe we are engaged in a clash of civilizations. He wants to wind down the war in Iraq (although the warmongers in the US are making it difficult) and he is having second thoughts about the War in Afghanistan.
While I would agree that the Nobel Peace Prize is partially about hopes for the future, we shouldn’t let that blind us from the fact that Obama has done a lot of concrete things that have made the world safer.

Obama can’t be forgiven for not being “W” Not for bush but for NOT BEING WHITE! A black man leading this country? That is sure scary. just ask Rush.
