But what’s lower then Ted Cruz on the devolutionary scale?
Sarah Palin? Rick Santorum? Rick Perry?

McCarthy was a drunken bully (even though he was right about Communists in the government and military). But this has nothing to do with Ted Cruz.

Doesn’t matter reality happens whether you believe in it or not… except in cartoons.

Saying McCarthy was right was like saying a mass murderer actually managed to nail another murderer as he killed hundreds of other people. Were there Communists in the government? Yes. It is legal to be a Communist. Did McCarthy know who they are? No, and he was perfectly willing to destroy innocent people’s lives and careers to sate his attention-mongering.

There were communists everywhere, which was perfectly alright since it has alway been legal to be a communist (or a republican, or democrat) in the US. So in light of that he was absolutely wrong and un-American.

There were more American communists and socialists during the 20s through the 40s. By the 1950s, most had become disillusioned with rigid ideology & merged back into the progressive mainstream. Even during the American Marxist ‘heyday’, there was a lot of dissent with the policies of the Soviet Union. It became clear early on that Lenin & Stalin were more concerned about personal power than people power.

McCarthy’s claims were pure fiction, and it’s important to remember that he was far from the only hysteria peddler at the time.

You do know why he went after the Army don’t you? His assistant, Roy Cohen talked him into after Cohen’s lover was drafted. He wanted to get even. That is the depth of their commitment to anti-communism and indicative of the type of witch hunt they were on.

Roy Cohn had already been obsessed with rooting out Communist spies in government & military. He made his name in the Rosenberg trial & McCarthy hired him for his own investigative hearings. Despite the fact that he was gay, Cohn also was obsessed with driving homosexuals out of government & military jobs.

The claim that Cohn & G. David Schine were lovers is generally regarded as false.

The term “witch hunt” is interesting. Witches aren’t real; Communists were/are. Remember that whenever you hear someone talking about “witch hunts”.

Yes, it was legal to be a Communist, but not to be an agent of an enemy government.

About 14% in the country accept the scientific version of Evolution. I am one of those few. A small amount accept only Biblical Creation. The largest amount accept a hybrid of Creation then Evolution.

How right was “Tail Gunner Joe?” Not many and it wasn’t such a conspiracy as he said. Being a Communist didn’t automatically mean you supported the USSR either. He was a rumor monger that sowed fear and paranoia. Very ugly.

But Witches were real and so probably were the ones not caught, tortured and murdered by the Catholic Church. If they were as powerful as advertised they would not be caught.

How many did the drunk McCarthy name were agents of foreign governments? To him a Communist was evil no matter what they did or are. Communist was handy to name anyone who HUAC didn’t like. it was one of the worse times in the USA. truly un-American.
