McCarthy’s claims were pure fiction, and it’s important to remember that he was far from the only hysteria peddler at the time.

That is the depth of their commitment to anti-communism and indicative of the type of witch hunt they were on.Roy Cohn had already been obsessed with rooting out Communist spies in government & military. He made his name in the Rosenberg trial & McCarthy hired him for his own investigative hearings. The term “witch hunt” is interesting. Witches aren’t real; Communists were/are. Remember that whenever you hear someone talking about “witch hunts”.
