The CFL is all of a sudden not so friendly after all

The CFL contains no more mercury than does a regular light bulb. More scare tactics from Luddites.

CFL bulbs do give me a horrible headache, as all florescent bulbs do. I’ve known of my problem with them for 60 years. But the problem has been discounted by the wacko environmentalists. It is impossible to find the truth about it on the web.

Like all FLs, CFLs flicker. The rate of that flicker may be a trigger for migraine headaches in some people.

According to the luddites at the EPA, incandescent light bulbs contain no mercury.
    .
However, they do produce more mercury emissions over a lifetime because of the greater amount of electricity required to light them and the mercury emissions from the power plant @ 5.5mg vs 1.2mg for the CFL. Throw them in a landfill and the total for incandescent stays @5.5, but the CFL goes up .44mg to 1.64mg.

Wrong – Incandescent bulbs have zero mercury in them.

That depends on what fuels the power plant.

CFL’s will be remembered as a failed transition from incandescent to LED.

I still have an 8 track recorder.

It is already impossible to find 100 watt bulbs……and the cfls make it hard to read, not adequate light.

I used to have an 8-track recorder. Then, six days later cassettes won the battle. Dam those cassettes! Then CDs became the rage, and I had to move my music collection for a fourth time. MP3s are killing me.

He would be better off with a LED nose… and the shape would be easier to manage.

There are easy ways to convert CDs or tapes to MP3 format… all you need is a computer and the internet to download the program. For tapes, you’d also need a tape player with a headphone jack so you can plug the other end into the “Line in” on your PC. ;-)

Wrong. CFL’s and flourescents contain mercury. Your standard incandescent contains no mercury at all. More lies and misinformation from the greenies. And nothing changes the fact they are a nuisance and take forever to get going. When I flip on a light I want the light now, not later when it warms up.
