Did the Snake walk upright berfore all that temptation stuff? I remember that the punishment for the snake was that he was forever doomed to ‘crawl up his stomach’.
Maybe someone just told me that. I am sure someone can elighten me.

…and to reinforce his displeasure; God tells them that some of their descendants will be in the U.S. Congress in 2013.

Very modestly enlarged image can be found here, or at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry; but it’s gouache on board, not oil on canvas.

God’s Curse (link points to a Wikipedia page that discusses it) is shown, with the same image pointed to above, by its current-location page (click Zoom this image there to interactively enlarge).

It is one of 76 works by this artist that have been put online by the current-location. Another 524 works by this artist have been put online by the Brooklyn Museum. The artist’s Wikipedia page (Google translated French Wikipedia page has more) and collection (many, many more under Subcategories at each level).

Fourth, of the 7 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.

This entire story is an example of what is known in the as “mythology.” There was no adam and eve, no talking snake, no garden of eden. Every society from the beginning of recorded history has had myths, stories that were made up by human minds to explain things that were not understood. Every culture had it’s own creation myth for example. Many, many cultures had myths of virgin birth before the christians came up with theirs. Human beings are awesome at making up stories out of their imagination but that doesn’t make them real. Harry Potter for example is a great and riveting tale but that doesn’t mean that any part of it is believable. So if you still think that eve was formed from adam’s rib or the whole thing about the apple is true, than I suggest you need to……well, I don’t know, frankly. Any suggestions on how to enlighten people who can’t tell the difference between myth and reality? It’s an overwhelming problem for our world and can actually cause some people to strap explosives onto their chest and blow up a market place or go to war over stories that someone made up thousands of years ago.

Please enlighten us. What is the origin of the densely compacted matter which exploded in a big bang? Or did it always exist, in a sort of eternity? What was the catalyst for the explosion? I don’t have the answers. Maybe you do.

StCleve72: Myth is a way of presenting truth in fictional form. Fact is not truth, just data. Like myth, it may point to the ultimate truth, but they are still separate things.

Once upon a time in Sunday School, the teacher asked her class to draw their favorite Biblical passages. But she was confounded by one young boy’s submission- three people in a sports car. “And what is this supposed to illustrate?” she asked him.
Came the reply: “That’s God driving Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden.”

I applaud you. I’d be lost without my Bible.

It props up one of the legs on my drawing board.
