What a generation has developed to make fun of founding fathers who have accomplished more than most could in one’s lifetime. The painting is truly history in art.

Ralph, I don’t think he’s making fun of the painting or the founding fathers. I think it’s much more a commentary on how our elected officials act today, and what their priorities are, in contrast with the actual great moments in history like the one depicted here.

I do note — on a (much) lesser plane — that they seem to be very delighted to display their shoes and stockings.
Makes them seem much more like the “Tea Party” of today, doesn’t it…!

Enlarged image can be found here, or at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry.

Washington as Statesman at the Constitutional Convention (links show Wikipedia pages) is shown, with a different coloration, maybe-click-to-enlarge image, by its current-location page.

It is described here along with a larger, click-to-enlarge version of the strip’s image. Another different coloration, enlarged image can be found here. The artist’s Wikipedia page and collection.

First, of the 2 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.
