Strange. Some Conservatives said you could run a ham sandwich against Obama and win. Others said you could run a fire hydrant. Oh the disillusionment…..!

Obama didn’t catch that ball. It was given to him by a 3% of the popular vote and around 100 surplus electoral votes. Americans gave him that ball and now he has to use it to make things better for 100% of our citizens, not just the ones who elected him. The disillusionment Gypsy8 mentions remains with those of us with a vision of what it means to be an American and what this country should be. Those visions are very diverse and will require compromise in order to move on anything approaching a common vision. What we should not forget is that we all won yesterday. This would be my view had Romney won as well. Any time there is a peaceful transfer of power, our experiment in democracy succeeds another few years. I hope we can come together on the issues on which we agree, and can set aside until another time, those issues on which we cannot agree to disagree.
    Respectfully,
    C.

Some might argue that crystallizing that vision took far too long, was far too expensive, generated too much animosity, and encouraged too many lies. Too much time, resources and energy are expended in making a fairly simple choice – resources that could be spent in running the country. What is there about the process and the rewards that motivates a Linda McMahon to spend $90 million of her own money to become part of the power structure? Something is out of wack.

OH MY GOD! Have you been this full of horsepoop all along?
    .
I haven’t been reading you much, but this is just flat out ridiculous!
    .
First of all, if you REALLY think that America GAVE Obama a victory then you should absolutely NOT be opining on a political forum.
    .
That election was HARD WON! It was not won in the debates, it was not won in the advertisements, it was not won in the speeches. It was won by organization of labor!
    .
It was won by "Get Out The Vote efforts that made sure that Obama got the high turnout in the districts and precints that he needed to get them from!
    .
You are looking at it fro a national perspective, or a state perspective. The Obama campaign was looking at it on a street by street basis. House by house, Apartment building by apartment building!
    .
I hate to go to a sports analogy, but your comment is like someone watching Michael Phelps and saying “I could have done that” or Derek Jeter and saying “The guy just has talent” Or Michael Jackson and saying, “He’s was only big because he was big when he was a kid!”
    .
NO! It takes talent and drive and an incredible amount of HARD WORK to compete against the best in the world at what they do!
    .
The Obama Campaign BEAT Karl Rove! And you want that to have been something that was “Easy” that was “Given to him!”
    .
Pull your head up outta there!

Dred, why the anger? C was in no way belittling the win, at least not that I could see.
    -
You might not like the way it was worded, but the main point was that now there is a very difficult task to find agreement, one which I agree with.
    -
This task is going to be all the more difficult with Fox “news”, in coordination with Republican leadership, constantly spreading distortions of the ‘you didn’t build that’ type — and on the equivalent scale.
    -
The election was, in fact, hard won, and well deserved because of that. But the governing is going to be just as difficult.

For those who belittle Obama for being a “community organizer,” you’ll have to admit he did a pretty good job of organizing communities…to vote for him.

People underestimate how many non-Republicans considered a Romney presidency (in lockstep with the usual GOP suspects) to be a terrifying prospect. That fear played well for Obama and was propogated by his supporters.

Thanks for the colorful reply, Dred. ;)
My step father used to tell me I was so full of….horsepoop… my eyes were brown. So, maybe I am.
    That said,
AMERICANS who (a) believed in Obama’s plan for the future (b) were terrified of Republican stated goals, worked their tails off making phone calls, knocking on doors, and staffing offices. He won because people who couldn’t afford a lunch at work donated $10 by phone in hopes he could make a difference in their lives. He also won because people who didn’t want to vote for him didn’t want to vote for Romney even more and just stayed home.
In short, we agree and you have misinterpreted the context of my comment. Most of my posts yesterday were a continuation of my ongoing rant that Americans need to put parties aside and talk like neighbors to resolve problems, and like neighbors, to do so without reinforcing the divisions and resentments the last 12 years of political infighting have created.
    I am a peace troll.
I may also be full of horsepoop. But as a child, every two weeks, I had to clean out the stall of the horse my grandfather kept for me, and then I pushed the wheelbarrow full of straw and horsepoop over to the garden compost heap. Grandma made the best jellies and jams in the county and her garden always grew tall with delicious foods. Horse poop, applied properly, can cause good things to grow. Just don’t let it hit the fan.
    Respectfully,
    C.

The anger was that Cdowns was acting the Al Gore to our W in the debate. (The one where Gore was huffing and puffing and sounding like the spinster auntie schoolmarm with little patience for our foolishness.
    .
1,460 days out of 1,461 that’s ok. But once in 4 years it’s OK for the party that won to blow off their steam! (when you do the math, don’t forget the leap year).
    .
And then to say “Obama didn’t catch that…” it in terms that echoed “You didn’t built that!” was gas to the fire!
    .
The fact that what Cdowns said is indeed more like what Obama meant with the “You didn’t build that.” snippet doesn’t matter. It’s like when Obama said something about “Lipstick on a pig” after Sarah Palin had seared “The difference between a pitbull and a hockey mom…Lipstick!” into the minds of America. You have to remember that what you say is related to the context of things beyond where you are saying it.
    .
    I’m better now.

    .
As have we all. But yesterday wasn’t the time.
    .
It’s like when MortyfortyRANT went on and on about how stupid the Americans were and how it was going to take till Christmas to pump out the subways and how you should have buried your utilities and on and on while we were still reeling from the storm.
    .
It’s not that what he was saying was wrong (well actually, it was that he was wrong, he dosn’t know squat about how the USA works, he doesn’t know about our real estate and he doesn’t know about how our utility companies work and yet there he was criticizing our capitalist mentality!) but that it was the wrong time to have been saying it!
    .
    I hope we’re cool.
