    The following quote,

‘Never an actor who took himself too seriously, Mr. Mature was fond of telling how he was rejected for membership in the Los Angeles Country Club because the club did not accept actors. He said that he had replied, ‘’Hell, I’m no actor, and I’ve got 28 pictures and a scrapbook of reviews to prove it.’’’

comes from his “The New York Times” obituary.

It’s worth the 8 or so minutes to read the rest. He was an interesting man who enjoyed life.

Yes he was. He was great with Hedy Lamarr in Samson And Delilah.

Love him…rarely see any of his movies on Turner Classics anymore…Does anyone remember the story of him and friend taking a break in nearby bar still dressed in costumes as Gladiators while filming some movie and asked if they served soldiers ? Remind me of that story …I know someone will remember…

    “That’s HEADLEY!” ;-)
I wonder how many in the late 1960s and early 1970s pronounced Victor’s last name as “ma-toor”?

I remember him and always thought it interesting that his facial features were so ……mature.
