Mark Buford's Scary Gary presents an all-too-common problem: vampires in the suburbs. But this vampire isn't out for blood; Gary has turned over a new leaf. Hanging up his cape for good, Gary takes up residence in a quiet community, dragging his less-than-thrilled assistant, Leopold, with him. While Gary embraces the serenity of suburban life, Leopold is always cooking up one plan or another to terrorize the neighborhood. Scary Gary is syndicated by Creators Syndicate.

A relative was looking for a house and the cheapest ones in the area were near a mushroom farm on steilacoom road…
The breeze told him not to buy there.

Leo hates the whole area, or he ate the whole area?

I wonder how close Gary’s present house is to the one they did not buy and the hog rendering plant? Maybe Leopold could pay it a surreptitious visit from time to time if he were running out of fresh neighbors….

I used to go through there to get to Ft Lewis North Post…

I can’t believe that the rendering plant can smell worse than a hog farm.

Living next to a rendering plant isn’t as bad as living within a couple of miles of a hog breeding and feeding operation with over 2500 pigs.

Where’s the big sewer pipe dumping sludge into the river? Let’s have some realism here!

I went to a high school where there was a paper mill next door. I always hated going outside for phys ed.

The lagoons for the pig waste are hidden behind the building. They only overflow when it rains, or when the owners haven’t gotten around to having the waste shipped off to be sprayed onto nearby vegetable crops.

Believe it or not, but a sugar beet processing plant is worse than any hog farm, feed lot, rendering plant, waste disposal facility or even a dog food plant. Actually, worse than all put together.

Talk about a noisome place.

Tell me about it. A mushroom farm’s warehouse caught fire here about ten years ago, thank GOD we lived upwind with a nice ocean breeze. It was so bad they had to cancel classes at the junior college five miles away and the fire dept was afraid it would explode if they tried to hose it down. Gad.

On a road trip when I was 15 we drove 25 miles through the stench of hog farms (I think it was in Arkansas). My Dad ran that Chevy Impala up to 90mph but it still wasn’t fast enough!
