Bad thing with those older strings was once they get untangled – you have troubleshoot which bulb is burnt out half the time.

My dad always wrapped the light strings around sheets of cardboard. The outside lights, I’d be standing on the ground wrapping the lights as he disconnected them from the gutters. Never had a tangle.
