Last year, I took some wire snips to the “prestrung” lights on our artificial tree because three sections had burnt out (two years after we bought the tree! Made in China piece of … hey hey!). I tried replacing fuse. No joy. So, ~ three hours of snipping later we had an unstrung artificial tree.

I did this at my mom’s for her this year. Took several hours and I had been snickering at this story arc all week as a result. I “prelit” my own narrow tree and just move it to the basement with lights still on in january. Haven’t had a light string fail on me in for at least 4years running now.

And yet the audience couldn’t see that one thought bubble. How surreal.

When I was about Red’s age, my parents would have me do things like untangle Christmas lights. It’s been over half a century, but I recall being quite good at it. Maybe it was because I found it more interesting than an adult would have.
