    And if your dad is a plugger he will tell you that back in his day they would just regroove the tread and put tire paint on the sidewalls.

    Don’t know if this makes me a plugger, but I remember buying $10-$11 recapped tires. Could usually get 1000 miles for each dollar spent.

    Another disqualification. I’ve always kept my tires matched … at least on any given axle.

    I worked in tire retreading for nearly 20 years and for most of that time I also sold used tires at a flea market as a side job


    Met a lot of “Pluggers” in those days

    It’s been many years, but I knew a few guys that had “grooving irons”

    Never used one myself, they were illegal and my reputation meant to much to me
