At its heart, Pearls Before Swine is the comic strip tale of two friends: an arrogant Rat who thinks he knows it all and a slow-witted Pig who doesn't know any better. Together, this pair offers caustic commentary on humanity's quest for the unattainable. Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams says that Pearls is "one of the few comics that make me laugh out loud." The strip has twice won the National Cartoonists Society's Reuben division award for Best Newspaper Comic Strip – in 2003 and in 2006.

Sprouts are disgusting. True story.

I think Pastis made a challenge: what does ‘BROCCOLI’ stand for?

Sprouts are GREAT on avocado sandwiches:
Sprouted multi-grain bread (lightly toasted), a generous smear of coconut oil, a third of a ripe avocado (spread with a fork), a judicious dash of garlic salt, and a goodly stack of fresh sprouts . . . Mm-MM!
Yeah . . . me and Goat . . . WE know.

That’s what I thought , too. I got as far as…
Bushes Ruining Our Cheddar Cheese
before I gave up. Maybe … ,Or Limp Icky? Surely there’s a better answer. And, for the record, I love broccoli, too.

AVOCADO? People actually eat that stuff???

I’m guessing that by “sprouts” we are talking about bean sprouts as opposed to Brussels sprouts. I like them both, but nobody would put Brussels sprouts in a sandwich, would they?

If Pastis can’t even make an acronym for s.p.r.o.u.t without adding a w, broccoli is going to be next to impossible.

Oh, yeah. Lots of different things sprouting out there, huh?
I think Goat and I both like ALFALFA sprouts on our sandwiches.
Bean sprouts are usually in my stir-fry.

I like them on sandwiches, but Krogers/Fred Meyers, Walmart and some other outfits quit carrying them because of the constant recalls. Since salmonella and other bacteria contaminants are the result of lack of cleanliness (dirty containers, contaminated water, dirty growing areas, poor worker hygiene, etc.), you’d think they growers would get the message to start keeping things clean like they used to. Even running the sprouts under a UVC light just before they go off to market would help immensely.

I am not fond of Brussels sprouts anywhere, and I don’t much care for any other kinds of sprouts in sandwiches, though I’ve had more or less high-end burgers slathered with them. Rat’s acronym explanation (aside from the necessary “w[ith]” at the end) works, but I don’t see an easy read for BROCCOLI….
