At its heart, Pearls Before Swine is the comic strip tale of two friends: an arrogant Rat who thinks he knows it all and a slow-witted Pig who doesn't know any better. Together, this pair offers caustic commentary on humanity's quest for the unattainable. Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams says that Pearls is "one of the few comics that make me laugh out loud." The strip has twice won the National Cartoonists Society's Reuben division award for Best Newspaper Comic Strip – in 2003 and in 2006.

This pretty much hits the nail on the head for the majority of bicyclists out there.

Agreed. I bike sometimes myself, but keep off to the side and swing wide on left turns, etc. To many arrogant cyclists out there think they own the road. That’s why there was so much blowback against cyclists rather than the driver when that guy in CA slammed on his brakes and made a couple crash into the back of his car. Not saying it was right, just noting that a LOT of people sided against the cyclists in spite of the situation.

I bike a lot, but stay in my neighborhood, and obey the traffic rules.

On the other hand, there are just as many arrogant motorists out there who think that THEY own the road. THEY’RE even more dangerous, by about 2,000 pounds. That said, as far as Jeff is concerned, I’d have to side with Rat on this one (as much as it pains me to agree with Rat about anything!)

Is there some unwritten bicycling law that says that bicyclists have to try to run over pedestrians?

French truck drivers are the most professional in the world (France is the only country where truckers have to take an ADDITIONAL 6-8 week training course and exam for which they pay 4-6,000 €). I’ve seen them drop back rather than enter into a confrontational situation. Yet last week I saw one stop his rig in the middle of the road, blocking all traffic, jump out of his cab and run back to the cyclist behind him and really lambaste him. The cyclist had been riding in the centre of the road, so the 44 tonner had to drop down to 4 miles/hour, with the rest of us behind having to follow suit for some 2-3 miles, until the truck could swing wide, into the opposing lane, to avoid the cyclist and pass him. On top of his abominable behaviour, the cyclist was also riding without any lights, on an unlit road at 10 o’clock at night.
In the UK motorists pay road tax, for trucks it’s £2,585/annum, cars £215, cyclists pay nothing – I’d say motorists do own the roads there.

Always stay at least three feet from a bicyclist.

WHAT bike lanes? And when did bicycling become a crime? Any time I get on my bike, it’s taking my life into my hands because there is no bike lane and almost no shoulder. Won’t even let my kids go out on their bikes around here – how pathetic is that?

Where I live, the city in its infinite wisdumb put the bike lanes in place of the sidewalks, so pedestrians have no where else to walk. Cyclists wearing headphones, with no bell or horn, enjoy counting points on pedestrians. The other day I was returning home on foot only to be pushed aside by a cyclist with no bell. He literally reached out a hand and shoved me. I guess he was too dumb to speak.
In some areas, there is a bike lane on one side of the street, and a pedestrian sidewalk on the other. Of course the cyclists ride on the sidewalk, leaving the bike lane empty.
