From what I hear, freshman and sophomore years at college have become remedial high school. Not surprising, considering that a student can graduate from high school nearly illiterate. And of course, now an advanced degree is worth what a bachelor’s degree was years ago.

Some degrees are worth significantly more than others

Get a degree in air conditioner repair; you’ll make a lot more money and 1/10th the student loan.

…and what does that make having NO high school diploma?

Actually, in New York City, the socialist run school system is so great that colleges are teaching remedial reading and writing. When my brother went to college 20 some years ago, he paid for it by working for a professor as an undergrad teacher. Subject: Remedial sixth grade math for future public school teachers.

Over 100 years ago my grandparents made it as far as the grade 8. Today, that would be the equivalent of a PhD.

She offer’s good advice, but no bottom line. The diploma still does not guarantee a job if you haven’t learned how to get along in kindergarten.

Oh please, blame it on the school system, and not the parents. Give me some parents who actually care and push their kids to work and learn, and it doesn’t matter where you send those kids to school because they will do well.

Passing kids to the next grade that cannot do the work….ya, it is the government school system.
