    That looks like a 1986/early 1987 Calvin. Was that intentional? The rounder style Watterson used then does fit into Maria’s Day better than the firmer, more angular look of the later stuff.

    An excellent rendition of Calvin, Kudos! Probably too much to hope for a full view of Hobbes? I do hope Mr. Watterson is enjoying whatever he’s doing these days.

    I thought so too, couldn’t remember the year though. Maybe Calvin could teach Maria some of his evil expressions (I loved those)

    I was hoping that Bill might be doing a Guest Strip or two for another comic, like he did in Early June 2014 for Pearl before Swine. Maybe not…

    I think Scott did a great job here bringing out Calvin.

    @Quantum Leaper

    Bill Watterson actually came up with that plan himself, and sought out Stephen Pastis to suggest it. Whether he does it again is up to him!

    Yep, as with most cartoon characters, Calvin changed in appearance. The earliest strips were quite different from this model as well. His ears stuck out more, his eyes were rounder, and his hair flatter. In fact, while many call his hair ‘spiked,’ I always interpreted it at as Watterson’s stylization of ‘messy.’

    My Mom was a big fan. Way back in the early years, 198something, I did her a watercolor of Calvin and Hobbes walking along together. Mom kept on her bedroom wall until it was yellow enough to curl off.

    Awesome likeness. I grew up loving Calvin and Hobbes, passed that love onto my brothers and soon will pass it on to my daughter.

    Here is some info about what Bill has been doing lately:

    Calvin & Hobbes’ creator has been secretly drawing this comic strip!
